Lovington residents and surrounding areas have raised funds for a farm exhibit contest. Prizes include first 7.50, second 5.00, third 2.50 for greatest variety and best exhibit from one farm, plus prizes for best canned products and peaches. First prize a one year subscription to the Lovington Leader, second six months. Bring entries to compete for the prize money.
The Seminole Sentinel reports a planned feature of the 1915 Panama Exposition in San Francisco. One thousand Texas steers will be driven from San Antonio to San Francisco under veteran trailhands, covering deserts and mountain passes over about a year with staged water and eventual reunions.
Chester Shepard, son of the postmaster, suffered a painful shoulder wound last Sunday evening when a shotgun loaded with No 4 shot discharged accidentally. No bones were broken and he is reported doing as well as could be expected.
The Lovington Ladies Home Missionary Society reports twenty three members enrolled with several on the roll. They have collected 98.60 in six months paid 25.00 in the last month and hold 45.00 in the treasury. Twenty five garments were given to the poor and twenty visits were made to the sick in the last month. A play is planned for the ladies and the next meeting is July 25 at the church. The Lovington area enjoys milder heat while Kansas reports 112 degrees and central states see 60 to 110. western mountain regions endure snow and heavy rains, highlighting broad regional weather extremes.
R F and J B bere left yesterday morning in JB Loves car for a business trip to Roewell.
Mr Dewherst has put the streets in good shape and is now working on the road to Eddy and the Chavis County line north of town. Auto drivers praise the work and the town should invest in a road drag to keep roads smooth after rain. The county and Mr Dewherst are thanked for the grader usage.
