The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments Tuesday in a case testing New Mexico tenure law and the State Board of Education authority. Pauline E. McCormick sued Hobbs Municipal Board of Education after her 1952 firing for alleged policy violations. Charles Whitten Suffers Right Arm Amputation
Charles Whitten of Jal returned home from Kermit Hospital after his right arm was amputated above the elbow. He sustained injuries while roping calves at the Penn Combest Ranch near Jal when a 350 pound calf fell on his arm. The incident was described as a freak accident with no bones broken, but severe flesh damage necessitated the surgery.

The State Highway Department informs Lea County Commission that about 208000 is available for constructing the Jal to Ochoa road linking with a Carlsbad road.
