Five new deacons Gordon Gann Leo Parker C A McDaniels Earl Maudlin and Ray Short were ordained Sunday afternoon at the Baptist Church. The ordination service was attended by ministers and deacons from Hobbs Monument Bethany Buckeye Eunice State Line Oil Center and the Air Base. A Presbyteria examined the candidates and Howard Grandon Sunday School Superintendent reported 257 in Sunday School and strong Training Union attendance at 6 p m.

Eighteen New Mexico cattlemen consign 80 bulls and 10 Hereford females for the 19th annual Southeastern New Mexico Hereford Association sale in Roswell on Friday January 27. The event at the Eastern New Mexico State Fair grounds opens 12 30 p m with consignors including L M Pitt Roger Frans Crockett Ralph Bonne l Glencoe Bert C Roy and others. The Roswell sale is the oldest in the state and has posted all time and record averages in past years with 1949 setting a new high average of 447 per animal. The 1950 offering features Anxiety 4th and TO blood lines and a strong lineup of repeat consignors.

Dr Martin Cole the dean at Eastern New Mexico University has become a popular speaker in the state since joining the faculty in 1948. He previously served as dean at St Olaf College Northfield from 1945 to 1948 and was a longtime dean and history professor at Augustana College since 1926.
