World's Heaviest Man William Weisel Dies at 57
William Weisel of Clayton New Mexico died at Meadows Home Las Vegas after a chronic heart ailment. He weighed 700 pounds and stood five feet four inches tall with a 96 inch waist. Ten men carried his body after wrapping in a mattress secured to steel rails. Weisel born Mangum Oklahoma lived much of life in Clayton. He was a former schoolteacher and diesel engine expert who also worked as a radio disk jockey. He advertised bedding items and traveled despite his weight. He is survived by parents in Taos four sisters in Albuquerque and four brothers in Taos Clayton and Seminole Oklahoma.

Death toll climbs in New Mexico traffic fatalities in 1951
United Press reports New Mexico's death toll rose to 23 with 15 traffic deaths after a weekend toll of six. Three Belén residents died in a head on collision south of Albuquerque with seven others injured. Other fatalities include John W. Hayward, a 28 year old forest ranger, and Charles Hodgson, 38, of Farmington.

The Lea County Court House in Carlsbad will undergo a full renovating and redecorating during 1951. County commissioners will invite bids early in the year and hope work starts in spring.
