The Lea County State Bank celebrates a grand opening for its Hobbs facility a 13 million dollar two story structure with 53 employees and drive in windows. The bank has grown from 300000 in deposits 27 years ago to about 16 million today. A 1000 safe deposit boxes are available and a Series E savings bond drawing awards 1000 to registrants at 6 pm.

District Judge John R Brand heard arraignments from six charged with criminal offenses on Monday and set the docket for five cases to be tried before the Lea County jury on March 5. Robert A Coleman to be tried first on grand larceny charges. 22 civil cases set. Sander pled not guilty to forgery with Ray Cowan as counsel. Otis Yates and Arthur Yates pled not guilty to breaking and entering with Probate Judge Harvey Markely to represent them. Herman M Williams pled guilty to grand larceny and faces later sentencing. A thief broke into the Howard P. Holmes Drilling Co on Stanolind Road, taking 200 firm checks numbered 7251 to 7450 drawn on First National Bank Dallas and a check-writing machine.
