American firms free to move oil from Iran
The United States formally states it will not interfere with American companies seeking to move oil from Iran in defiance of Britain. Britain plans legal action against oil shipments and had seized Iranian oil properties, reversing earlier U.S. policy to discourage such marketing pending Anglo Iranian settlement. Officials acknowledge Britain may be unhappy but say no formal objection was made.
