President Eisenhower delivered a seven minute Christmas address from near a 67 foot White House tree stressing hope for world peace and human rights while warning against tolerating obvious evil. He urged action to support freedom and denied peace at any price. The broadcast prompted lights at bases and embassies worldwide.

Mrs. Merle Norman pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace and received 30 days in jail. It was her third offense. Rumbaugh Truck Co. was fined 20 dollars plus court costs for overhanging on a truck and paid 30 dollars.
Lovington Wildcats lose 51 to 44 to Seminole Indians on their gym floor. Jimmy Bevers leads with 13 points, while Larry Shivers and Bill Cates add 10 each. Seminole’s Theers scores 14 as Lovington faces Seminole again December 31. The B team edge Seminole B’s 48 to 46 in a tight preliminary game.
Army Cpl. Kelly H. Click Jr. of Lovington New Mexico participated in Operation Santa Claus a Christmas relief project mounted by over 300 members of the 7th Infantry Division Artillery in Korea. He joined the Army in May 1953 and arrived in Korea in November 1953 as an artillery survey specialist with Battery B 49th Field Artillery Battalion.
This copy of the Loving the Leader barely made it out as planned. Intended for eight pages, only four were produced due to a Christmas rush and a space reservation failure. Printer shortages compounded the issue, leaving most pages as news and pictures to avoid disappointing readers.
In Santa Fe a fifth lawmaker, W. Culbertson Jr. of Las Vegas, is named as a probable speaker candidate alongside Ralph Gallegos, Floyd Darrow, Virgil McCollum, and Donald Hallam. Hallam leads in insider support due to his previous party whip role, with Darrow also strong from broad backing. Committees meet as freshmen are oriented while lawmakers gather for the session in the coming month.
John Neel, 42, driving a 1954 Chevrolet struck two girls walking to Southern Heights School Friday at noon. Joann Rhea, 11, and Jerri Ann Pritchard, 12, suffered bruises and scratches, were treated and released from the hospital. Jerrie Pritchard is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Pritchard. Joann Rhea is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Rhea.
Two oil companies reported thefts from leases near Lovington on Friday. Gulf Oil Corporation said oil field material was taken from the L. A. Chamberlain No. 3, but details were unavailable. Amerada Petroleum reported loss of thread protectors valued at 150 dollars from their yard four miles south of Bonco. Protectors were screwed together and cleaned. No arrests announced.
James R. Hobbs announces the Crowder and Crowder Agency purchase and move to 17 West Washington. The First Methodist Church gathers gifts for six adopted Lovington families, detailing sizes and ages for mothers children and fathers.
Dorothy Christmas of Gallup sues First State Bank for 256000 alleging false arrest slander and defamation. She claims cashier Dennis R Hudgeons caused a warrant for her arrest on a 500 check forgery and that remarks to the assistant district attorney led to her being held overnight in Albuquerque. A later admission of forging the check led to another woman’s jail sentence.
Lovington police escorted Santa Claus from KLEA at 8 30 to the Lovington National Bank where he stayed until noon chatting with children about their Christmas wishes. He planned a full day at several Lovington locations Saturday.
District Court adjourned last Wednesday and will not convene again until after Christ. The Emma Hicks trial occupied the first two days and two cases were finished on the last day. Jack Hampton was tried for forgery and sentenced to 3 4 years in the state penitentiary. John Robert Morrow, charged with automobile theft, received 6 to 8 years. Judge John R. Brand presided.
Officials announce pickup of low N M license tags due by December 24. Bring last year's registration when purchasing new licenses. A 50 cent duplicate fee applies to any missing tag.
A National Safety Council message urges drivers to refuse alcohol at parties. It cites that one in five fatal accidents in 1953 involved drinking and driving and warns holiday gatherings heighten risk. Citizens should opt for taxis to keep roads safe.
