W G Woerner of Knowles had a centrifugal pump installed by W J Chance and E Price after rehauling the old outfit. They drilled deeper to improve water yield, and Woerner expresses strong satisfaction with the pumping system and town improvements stirring optimism for expansion.
J. R. Smith, a Pecos rancher, located an old desert cabin in a secluded canyon along the river. The site is believed to have belonged to outlaws long ago and remains inaccessible to wagons from shore.
A remote cabin tucked in an arroyo corner survives years of neglect due to its sheltered stance. The rough canyon approaches hinder travel on foot horse or wagon and the discoverer Mr Smith remarks few have seen the site beyond its owners. Local storefronts promote Sta Brand shoes at T M Ancell's and the First Territorial Bank underscores community reliance on banking for prosperity.
Judge J D Cunningham attorney at law announces a new land office in Seminole Gaines County Texas. He will practice in all Texas courts and in U S Courts with prompt attention to business entrusted to him.
Deming officers led by Sheriff Dwight Stephens engage three outlaws at Cross Ranch eighty five miles northwest of Eagle. Deputies Al Smithers and Tom Hall are killed. a third officer wounded and a outlaw wounded are among the dead. Bodies moved to Eagle and Deming for burial. another posse pursues two remaining fugitives.
