Funeral set for Sydney L Williams at 59
Sydney Lee Williams, 59, died at his home near McDonald Tuesday after several months illness. Funeral Friday at Smith-Yarbro Chapel with Lynn Shelton officiating, burial in Lovington Cemetery. Survived by wife Nora and eight children including Frances McKey and Ruby Baker. brothers W F Williams and George Williams. sisters Mrs A R Bickle and Mrs Vivian Hue. Police budget items and personnel cuts noted. Miss Lovington pageant planned Friday at Lovington Country Club with local merchants sponsoring contestants and modeling fall styles.

State Police officers Hoover Wimberly and Nolan Utz are reassigned to Hobbs to fill vacancies after the deaths of Jake Ramsey Jr. and Joe T. Aven from an August 5 automobile crash. Utz is promoted to sergeant. Wimberly had been in Tatum since February. Utz returns to Hobbs from Carlsbad via Las Vegas. The Wimberly family will live at 222 Permian Drive in Hobbs.

88 Year Old Man Fires Shot at His Son in Lovington
An 88 year old father fired at his 52 or 62 year old son during a supper argument in Lovington but missed. The son asked the sheriff to drop charges. Authorities directed moving the man to Hobbs then home to Breckenridge and reported they reconciled.
