Fire trucks must pump and travel together to fight grass fires
Hobbs fire chief A L Conner warned county commissioners that modern grass fires on windy days require high powered units and in some cases truck alterations. He recalled a February 13 blaze west of Hobbs that jumped the Carlsbad highway, noting Hobbs and Lovington units prevented a larger spread. The Hobbs pump truck burned out a water pump but was repaired and reused, while a water tank truck aids towns by moving with engines and laying hoses as crews advance.

Warren Macatee Hospitalized After Wreck on Fort Worth Highway
Warren John Macatee, a TCU student and son of Mr and Mrs Francis Macatee, lies in St Josephs hospital Fort Worth with cuts and bruises from an automobile wreck when his convertible hit a stalled truck. Fellow students Robert Edward Christopher 19 fatally injured and Jon M Bennett 18 injured were in the party returning from a stag event. The Macatees traveled from Lovington to Fort Worth to be at his bedside.
