Lovington Considers Truck Route Bypass of Downtown
About 100 residents and the Lovington Traffic Safety Commission voted 31 to 10 to back a plan directing trucks around the downtown area. Three locals studied the issue with map assist from Gregg Salinas and prepared a proposed detour roughly a half mile from Main Street. The resolution, supported by a mix of drivers and officials, will go to the county commissioners, New Mexico State Highway Department, and the Land Use Department.

Gress Trial Ends in Hung Jury for Perjury Charge
United Press reports District Judge E T Hensley Jr declared a mistrial in the perjury case against Reverend Harold Gress of Lovington after Curry County jurors failed to reach a verdict following over five hours of deliberation. Two co defendants, Jack Skipworth and Edna Reed, face liquor sale charges in dry Curry County. Gress claimed he was beaten at the club and cannot recall his grand jury testimony. Gress will be retried in the future.

Williamson Midland reports casings set at 11,033 feet with total depth 11,042 feet in the No. 1 Spencer well. Drillstem test lasted 1 hour 10 minutes, produced a water blanket and oil-cut mud, with oil flow at about 80 barrels per hour in the final minutes.
