Public School Closes With Celebration and Debate

The public school concluded last Friday with a large afternoon audience. Students performed recitations and a debate on whether white settlers had a right to take Indian land, with Exa Johnson, Henry Gilley and Jim Townsend for the affirmative and Miss Mary Eaves, Charlie Gilley and Miss Malory Cornett for the negative. The affirmative won. The program featured "Kicking Maud" by Jim Townsend, jokes from Miss Malory Cornett, a prophesy by Exa Johnson, and a well received dialogue "Gossip" by several girls. A ball game followed, then supper with boiled eggs, cake, fruit, chocolate and coffee. The rooms were nicely decorated, music played between acts, and a lively evening of games continued. Mrs. Meadows hosted, with guests eager for another such event.
