Washington March 27 The House passed a bill cutting residence time on homesteads from five to three years and allows five months absence yearly for entrymen and families. The measure, affecting 160 acre and enlarged homesteads, aims to speed settlement and enable proof in three years. The president is expected to sign, with unclear cultivation provisions.
Orchardists report heavy losses to Elberta peaches after a rare deep freeze. Last Saturday night temperatures fell to around seventeen degrees with strong winds making smudge pots ineffective, leaving J. Tracy predicting only a small remaining crop.
A lively gathering occurred at J. W. Caudill’s place last Saturday night with a large crowd enjoying a wholesome country-style evening. Many townsfolk attended and joined in the merriment.
