County orchard owners report a likely bumper fruit crop this year after Easter, weather spared trees from freezes. W. K. Byrom C. W. Jobe and the J. C. Head orchards show heavy loads of fruit with cherries apples and peaches especially abundant, though hail remains a threat.

W. M. Breckon a pioneer settler suffered a stroke while visiting relatives near the Texas New Mexico line. He was moved to Lea General hospital in Hobbs and later entered a Houston hospital for treatment. Breckon helped establish the first electric light company franchise in Gaines county before moving to Houston in 1927.
Assistant District Attorney Joe Walton filed charges against two on the district court docket Monday. Price Houston Howell faces drunk driving for March 28. C. B. Hamrick is charged with forgery for cashing a $30 check at Cashway Food Market Hobbs drawn on First National Bank of Jal.
John Ray Bishop departed Tuesday for Camp Merriman California to begin overseas duty in the Navy Air Corps.
Oldtimer reports Mrs. Almira Adams of route one showing some improvement while still confined to bed under nurse care after several months of illness.
In a domestic case Mayme B Spillman seeks custody of two children from Arthur Spillman while Charles F Waters pursues custody of Louise Waters children. Proceedings center on best interests and guardianship as the mothers and fathers contend for primary care.

Pablo Sanchez a Mexican National faced charges of leaving the scene of an accident filed by Perry Schaaphok after a Friday night crash ten miles out of Lovington. Testimony conflicted and Undersheriff James Robinson and Justice of Peace John W. Green dismissed the case due to lack of evidence. the youth's car sustained left front fender damage.
The Village of Tatum will convert the fire station into an office for the clerk and a board meeting room. Architect George Graves of Hobbs plans two offices from the two stalls and adds two new stalls, with work to start immediately. Clerk is Mrs. Bina Mae Hall. village records are kept at E. J. Elwes Leonard Landon 60 minister of the Church of Christ in Monument died Sunday at Lea General hospital Hobbs two hours after a heart attack during Easter services. Funeral at 10 this morning at the Church of Christ Hobbs officiated by Tom Wallace. Body to Healdton for burial Thursday afternoon at Elmore Oklahoma. Survived by wife Clara, a daughter Mrs Kenneth Eck of Healdton two grandchildren and sister Mrs Dixie Wright Linda Vista California. Green Chanel Hobbs in charge of local arrangements.
Lovington tax payers and registered voters will vote on a $600,000 school bond issue at the April 14 election. Only property tax payers who paid tax in 1952 may vote and voters must be registered to participate.
Sanford Clay Knoll, 15, of the McDonald community, died Friday night nine miles east of Lovington when his car failed to negotiate a curve on Caliche road. He was a Lovington High freshman and was buried Monday in Hagerman after services in Lovington. Survivors include his parents, a sister, a brother, and an aunt. Vernon E. Tiger Jr. was in the car but uninjured. Deputy R C Hayes investigated the high speed crash, which threw Knoll from the vehicle and caused the fatal injury.
Rev. Boteler pastor of the Assembly of God church won the largest prize in the Silver Harvest drawing. He drew a 30 percent chip worth $51.00 as the third ticket from the cage amid a crowd of over 200. Next week’s treasure chest holds $254.00 with half potentially to be won.
Officials of the State Oil Conservation Commission visited Washington on Monday to support the Permian Basin Gas company's request to the Federal Power Commission for permission to build a natural gas pipeline from Lea county to the Northwest.

The Lovington Leader announces a No 1 mother contest for the trade area from Humble City to the county line. Entrants must submit a recent picture and follow forthcoming rules and regulations.
The Lovington Leader will publish a comprehensive business review by June 15 listing every business in Lovington and surrounding areas. It will be alphabetical by kind and include a courthouse directory with no entries omitted.
The Lovington Board of Trustees will meet in the Firemen's room at the Town Hall at 7 o clock Tuesday April 7. Residents with items to bring before the trustees are urged to attend and present them.
Fire Chief E. M. Hester and Lovington volunteers battled a dangerous butane fire early Monday. Escaping gas roared from a tank forcing residents to flee toward the Bull Barn area. No injuries occurred and damage was limited compared to potential explosions from nearby tanks. Badgett announced Sea Gas Co will relocate for citizen safety.
Town park closes for upgrades. Town manager Joe Smith leads renovation with new swings seesaws and equipment on the west, picnic area on the east. Groundwork includes plowing resodding shrub borders and a central drinking fountain. A Negroes park nearby is planned with similar features.
