Decorators Begin Ground Floor Work At Courthouse

J. D. Culp Fixes Lovington Water Switches From Carlsbad
J. D. Culp of Lovington and associated with Electric Supply and Service in Hobbs came from Carlsbad to overhaul the automatic switches controlling Lovington’s water pressure pumps. He rewired the circuit and installed a temporary relay to restore 60 psi pressure, explaining the delicate mercury-tube switches were unsuitable for higher pressures.

Lea County sanitarian Bob Houston of Hobbs attended a district meeting in Carlsbad last week and heard James Doughty state supervisor of milk sanitation. Doughty stressed civil defense duties for health officials and dairymen if a disaster strikes the area and noted private water supplies and milk can containers as valuable. About 30 people attended. Dr. O E Puckett led the session and outlined plans to raise milk sanitation ratings with the U S Public Health Service.

Infant Sue Day Rites Held in Hobbs
Funeral services were held in Hobbs Thursday afternoon for Sue Evert Day infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs Ray Day. Born March 28 at Lea County Hospital, she died March 29 1951. Burial followed at Prairie Haven with Green Service in charge. Survivors include the Day grandparents and Mrs Halliburn from Wolf Point Mont.

Twenty three registrants with the Lea County Draft board will travel to El Paso for medical examinations early in April. Some go April 3 and others April 9. Mechem Sparks Lea Countians with Plant Inauguration

Mechem Starts Big Diesel Motors At Lovington
Governor Mechem started two 1 600 horsepower diesel motors at Lovington to supply about 2000 kilowatts to Lea County Electric Co operative. He turned the air valve as R B Moore explained. One motor was started after a manual spin and using long bars to position the flywheel. A third engine remained unstarted awaiting a permanent switchboard and foundation work continues for two 3 500 horsepower engines.
