Baley Murder Probe Details Gory Cab Driver Death

Coroners jury finds Ballard Baley died from multiple head injuries and gunshot wounds caused by unknown persons. Deputy Villers testified about finding the body and clues including bullet holes and blood pools, while physician Gillett linked a gunshot followed by beating. Baley, 58, was found along state road 83 near town after a park run and cab wreck south of the scene.

Sheriff Enroute To Question Murder Suspect

Sheriff J G McAdoo and Police James Robinson head to question a suspect tied to the Ballard Baley murder near Roswell. The man, held by San Diego authorities, admits pawning a .22 pistol used in the slaying. Bloodstained clothing and shell casings were found in his car, with leads traced to a car left at St Mary's Hospital lot in Roswell.

Final Rites For Mrs Threatt Saturday At 3 P M

Funeral services for Mrs Pearl Threatt aged 67 of Hobes will be at the Taylor Street Church of Christ with Rev Lee McClusky officiating. She died at home yesterday morning and is survived by three daughters, two sons, a sister and two brothers. Pallbearers are listed and burial follows at Prim Haven. she lies in state at Griffen Funeral Home.

Four Airmen Die In Crash Near Portales

Four Walker Air Force Base airmen died in a head on collision on US 70 south of Portales. State police blamed excessive speed and possible drag racing. Victims Charles R. Oil firm plans 100 wells in San Juan and surrounding areas

A Shell Oi Company official states the firm will drill 100 wells this year in the San Juan and Paradox basins of Southeastern Utah and Northwestern New Mexico. R. R. Robinson of Farmington says 40 wells will be drilled in Utah's San Juan County while the rest will be in New Mexico.

Oilfield Worker Killed in Caprock Accident Near Tatum

W G Thompson 31 of Hobbs died when crushed by a truck at Caprock about 2 30 p m. The driver M L Perry of Hobbs and both men worked for B F Walker Trucking Co. An inquest is planned. Thompson’s wife and relatives listed. Earlier, Hubert Baker another oilfield worker died near Lovington from falling rig equipment.

New Mexico Cut Off From Federal Surplus Property

New Mexico has been cut off from federal surplus property since June 8. State School Superintendent Georgia Lusk says the state has not suffered. federal officials are expected to approve a recess of surplus property from paper clips to bulldozers. The action followed an inter-departmental dispute and the discharge of former director Chris Anderson, whom Lusk accused of trying to make the surplus office an independent agency under Education.

Veteran barber in Housatonic marks 70 years cutting hair

Fred Sauer, 89, of Housatonic Mass is still active as a barber after a career spanning seventy years. He began cutting hair in his teens and continues to work, reflecting a long service in the local barbershop trade.

Motorists warned as speed linked to most highway deaths

The National Safety Council warns Fourth of July motorists that speed caused seven of ten highway deaths and factored in 71 percent of 435 holiday fatalities. Other risks cited include drinking night driving and rural roads. A head on crash near Harrisburg Illinois killed four and seriously injured four, including Sunday school pupils. In New Jersey a Greyhound bus rear ended a trailer on the Turnpike killing one and injuring 14.

West Germany Rejects Soviet Atomic Rearmament Warning

West Germany denounced a Soviet note warning against German atomic rearmament as pure invention. Moscow claimed rearmament would ruin hopes for unification and turn West Germany into a nuclear war base and cemetery, a charge Berlin dismissed as inflammatory.

Antelope Crop Reported in New Mexico Regions
