Chappell of Lovington is named a trustee of McMurry College Abilene Texas a 50 year old liberal arts school affiliated with the United Methodist Church He holds a BS and MBA from McMurry 1957 1958 and an MD from SMU 1961 He served in the Marine Corps 1950 1954 including a year in Korea with the 1st Marine Division He is married to Laura Powell and they have four children

The poll covers revenue sharing, ending the CEO program, bombing in Cambodia and Laos, defense spending, trade with the Soviet Union and China, energy crisis beliefs, and aid to North Vietnam.
The State Finance Board approved 7.6 million for higher education projects at UNM and NMSU plus renovations at Branson Library and Zimm mer man Library. UNM gets 2.987 million for a 48 551 square foot library expansion and stack renovations while NMSU receives 2.4 million for a 33 706 square foot Branson Library expansion. Other BEF funded items include 50 thousand for Mora Christmas tree research and 150 thousand for Milton Center dining remodel, with several campus HVAC, lighting, and remodeling projects across New Mexico institutions. Some schools receive no BEF funds.
Dora Mae Windland, 86, died Saturday morning at Hobbs Lea General Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services are pending. A pioneer family member, she moved to a Hobbs homestead with her parents in 1903 and was aunt to Roy and John Tomlinson and Elizabeth Clardy of Lovington, and sister of the late L. O. Tomlinson.
Abby Parrish, longtime manager of the Lea and Wildcat Theaters, is transferred to Uvalde Texas and will move tomorrow. Chuck Cummings succeeds Parrish as manager, bringing prior theater experience. Parrish, a Portales native, moved from Carlsbad and says his family regrets leaving Lovington but sees a south Texas advance while remaining with Commonwealth Theater.
In northern New Mexico the Rio Grande Gorge hosts the Wild and Scenic River designation with Powerline Falls as its dramatic centerpiece. Guide Murphy of Fronter Rivers leads an 18 mile whitewater trip from John Dunn Bridge to Taos Junction Bridge, amid rapids rated up to near impossible.
