Dr Rivera Opens Eye Clinic in Flagstaff Arizona

Dr Robert P Rivera formerly of Lordsburg announced the opening of Southwestern Eye Center in Flagstaff at 1355 N Beaver Suite 140. He trained at Mayo Clinic and Idaho Nem. editor of The Medicine Man. aims to serve bilingual communities with ophthalmic surgery and care. The Lordsburg Board of Education meets October 3 at 7 pm.

Special Council Sees Parking and Fees at Center

Lordsburg City Council met in special session on September 20 to review rental and parking fee structures for the Special Events Center. Mary Ann Gomez was tasked with drafting an equitable price list while ensuring charges apply universally. The panel favored using the center parking lot for booths during events and planned talks with Mrs. Damon Dunagan about land parcels for the Sewer Plant project, with an estimated $100,000 cost and negotiations authorized with Meridian Oil.

Bike-A-Thon Scheduled October 21 in Lordsburg

R A Chaires urged Lordsburg residents to join the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital Wheels For Life Bike-a-thon set for October 21, 1989 at Short Park. Riders sponsor donations per mile, with certificates for all and rewards at $25 and $75. Contact Chaires at 313 E Third St or 542-9666 for details.

Oldtimers Gather At Cloverdale Bootheel Roundup

About 100 Oldtimers and three horses attended the Bootheel Roundup at the Pendleton Ranch near Animas on the Mexican border. The gathering, for residents who settled the Hachita Animas Rodeo Columbus area before 1950, shared family histories and photos. A later dance at the Animal Community Center followed, with the next event set for Little Hatchet.

Hidalgo County Receives 254105 In Lieu Of Taxes

Hidalgo County is among 32 New Mexico counties receiving payments in lieu of taxes for non taxable Federal lands. The county will get 254105, with about half going to the road fund and half to the general fund. Approximately 35 percent of the county’s land is federally owned, largely by BLM and Forest Service. Eddy County leads with 947486, while Grant County gets 635590.

La Fiesta Club marks 90 years in Lordsburg business

The La Fiesta Club celebrates a 90 year history led by Fausto and Gene Noce. Fausto, a WWII veteran and former Hidalgo County official, was named Citizen of the Year in 1985. The cafe once hosted Lordsburg Lions meetings and served notable prices in the early days.
