A cow crossed the highway ten miles west of Lordsburg causing a Dodge roadster to wreck when it struck an abutment. M C Richardson and son W F Richardson of Palestine Texas and another son F Richardson of Ennis Texas were en route to Los Angeles to visit another son. They escaped with scratches and bruises as the vehicle was overturned and the abutment sheared off.
A reorganization meeting set the year’s program for the Workers Council of the Methodist Sunday school. Officers named include missionary chairman Mrs G P Jeffus and director of training Mrs J T Smith, with Dorothy Stengele as secretary and others as treasurers and department heads. Teachers listed cover primary to intermediate divisions with several roles pending final selection.
The regular Fall term of court will begin on Monday October first with several items on the docket though the session length is not yet known.
The N. and T. club of the Methodist church met at the home of Mrs. Elbert Jones last Tuesday afternoon. Special guests were Mrs. Jesse T. Smith, Mrs. Paul Austin and Mrs. Waller Boewell.
The vehicle was towed to Lordsburg where parts were ordered from Texas after the repair. Once completed, the Richardson will return home.
Hidalgo County Democrats announce a large rally at the Alar Theatre on Saturday October 13 with J B Vaught and “Rob” Dew listed among speakers. Local committee plans a noon barbecue at Antins Station and the state campaign opens with HL Cross as Hidalgo Democratic Central Committee chairman.
The Lordsburg Luncheon Club highlighted teachers from Valedon and Lordsburg schools with welcomes by A W Morningstar. Superintendent Wright of Wieden and Superintendent Smith of Lordsburg introduced six educators who received applause and brief talks, including Miss Kelly and Miss Garner.
A Harvest Festival dance will be held in Virden tomorrow night to raise funds for needed athletic equipment for the high school. The Arcadians will provide music, promising a memorable event with good cheer and attractions to entertain attendees.
Virden county commissioner H. G. Albert visits Lordsburg for a special board meeting. He says the Virden district is forging ahead with promising conditions for a successful season.
The program planned by the Baptist Church for tomorrow evening has been postponed to a future date.
Lordsburg residents were celebrated at the Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias and Grand Temple meeting in Albuquerque. The Lordsburg delegation, led by Mia Kerr and others, earned promotions and chaired committees while Kerr reported on Milwaukee Supreme Temple proceedings.
Lordsburg greets Master Sergeant W Johnson of Fort Sam Houston as new airport chief. He succeeds Master Sergeant Harry Ko Turner who and his family were bid farewell by prominent locals last week. Johnson travels with Mrs Johnson her mother Mea Holdn and nephew Holda Mizel staying a few weeks.
County commissioners met as a board of equalization to hear revaluation matters for the towns of Lordsburg and Rodeo. State Tax Commission member Mr Jeffe attended in an advisory capacity.
County Assessor and Mrs L A Bradberry announce the arrival of a nine pound son born last Monday. He has been named Lonza Aiton.
Cheshamay girls chapter held its last meeting in the fifth grade room. The group planned a picnic supper for Thursday and discussed new members before adjournment.
