Lordsburg Mavericks Open 1948 Season Friday at Home

Lordsburg heads into the 1948 season hosting Clifton on September 17 at 8:00 p.m. Admissions are adjusted for the opener with pedestrian and vehicle entry reorganized and parking west of the stadium. Ticket prices include student and elementary rates with a season ticket priced at 3.28. Five home games are listed: Clifton September 17 Morenci October 1 Hurley October 15 Deming October 22 Silver City November 5.

Lordsburg Hosts Highway 70 Association Meeting

About 150 representatives from Arizona and New Mexico are set to attend the Highway 70 Association meeting in Lordsburg on October 4. The Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce, per Lloyd Bloodworth, invites locals to help host a banquet and dance and to reserve by contacting the office. Railroad Ave. will be decorated for the event. George P. Jeffus is noted as a founder and director.

Roger Wells of Silver City begins teaching as the new band instructor at Lordsburg School. He started this Thursday and takes over the band program duties.

Union Organizer Leaves Territory

The Ilinois or New York C. I . organizer Mr Hagstrom known here as Mr. Hagstrom has left the territory according to a statement by his successor Mr Schnarl, leaving Lordsburg under Schnaittacher in charge. He led the local strike at the Banner Mine and in El Paso Bakers Union. El Paso Times quotes President Efren Acosta of local 227 saying Schnaittacher coerced workers into demanding contracts and then backed Wallace before dropping support. Acosta notes funds halted and beans were on the menu as talks with a labor conciliator loomed.

Mexico Beauty Queens Visit In Lordsburg

In Lordsburg Sunday the visiting Chihuahua beauty queens were hosted by Kirby's Cafe during a brief American Bus Lines stop. The group, Alicia Erines and Hortensia Gonzalez, with chaperones and El Paso officials, will tour Southern California on a seven day goodwill mission. All events and the later Rainbow Girls installation are outlined with dates and duties.
