The Fiesta began Thursday with the crowning of Miss Barbara Martinez as queen and will run through Friday. A 9 o clock Solemn High Mass at St. Joseph's Church, a parade at 11 at Moctezuma Hall, and a 9 p m dance at La Fiesta Club cap the two day event.

The Deming Yucca Council Boy Scouts of America will hold its tri-district fall camporee on Saturday and Sunday September 17 and 18 at the Deming air base and Luna County Fairgrounds Deming New Mexico. Hidalgo Luna and Grant counties troops participate with Billy Kimbley serving as Hidalgo district camping commissioner. Fathers of scouts are invited to attend and camp with the troop. The program starts at 9 a.m. Saturday with a full day of activities.

A 1949 Lordsburg reunion for the 1895 to 1898 public school cohort was hosted at Hotel Hidalgo with Emma Marble Muir. The Lordsburg public school band of forty, led by Roger Welles, performed as guests of honor. Bramble Ownby acted as toastmaster, songs were led by Mrs. Claude Fuller, and organizers included George Wood and Claude Fuller who planned another gathering. A garden party was planned but moved indoors by rain.

Thieves Loot Theater Safe in Corando
Thieves broke into the Corando theater at the corner of Anim as and Second streets between 11 Sunday night and 6 Monday morning. They rifled the safe worth $50 by prying open the side door and office door, smashing the safe combination. Police are investigating.
