The Dona Ana branch of NMSA will offer adult education courses in Lordsburg for the 1979-80 fall term. Registration begins at Dugan Tarango Middle School on Tuesday September 11 from 6 30 to 8 30 PM. Courses include GED preparation and English as a second language.
Animas residents backed a 1.5 million bond for a new elementary school a vocational agriculture building and an expanded playground. The no frills election passed 183 to 41 amid light turnout with strong support from Phelps Dodge Corporation and higher margins in Playas 90 to 11 Rodeo 21 to 11 and Animas 71 to 19. Absentee ballots favored passage 1 to 0.

Reserve champion steer Betsy Peterson sold to Fred Ewing for 2.00 a pound totaling 2230.00. Reserve champion swine Kenny Brdecke sold through Phelps Dodge Corp. for 2.75 a pound totaling 91.25. Champion sheep Leland Burton sold to Bedshort Coy for 4.30 a pound totaling 516.00.
Hidalgo County Commissioners discussed forming a ten member committee to gather data on medical priorities and pursue a federally funded Rural Health Initiative clinic to aid county residents. A clinic would be housed in Lordsburg and run with federal grant support. The meeting also covered Glen Acres road contract disputes over funds hold harmless agreements and culvert provisions with residents seeking immediate work.
