Lordsburg Schools Report Enrollment Boosts Budget Projections

Lordsburg school enrollment surpasses budget forecasts with 1 292 students from six schools, led by 361 at Lordsburg High, 319 at Dugan Tarango Middle, and 612 in elementary. The board approved emergency parking lot funding, bond projects, and a Capital Improvements budget increase of 86 520 67.

Deming Firm Wins Sign Painting Bid

Quality Signs of Deming was the apparent low bidder to paint a 10 by 40 foot sign at the East end of Lordsburg. The Deming painter quoted 525 dollars and will be paid by the City with Lodger's Tax funds, per city spokesman.

Chamber Board Tackles Light Agenda in Lordsburg

Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce board meets in regular session to discuss painting Railroad Avenue buildings red white and blue for bi centennial events and recruiting a Vietnamese doctor through the Council of Governments. A three day Hidalgo County wagon train stop begins February ninth with proceeds from bi centennial trays aiding the chamber. Attendees include Harold Jorgenson Art Malott Jim Larson Jiggs Reed Earl Haldeman Paul Gandara Jack Walz and Glenn Dorsett. The next meeting is October 6.

Lordsburg Handles HRC Discrimination Complaints

New Mexico Human Rights Commission investigator arrives in Lordsburg to examine three discrimination charges filed by city employees Juan Bejarano Jr Ventura M Camacho and Joe V De La Garza. Mayor Ted White defends raises given to 24 of 58 workers saying non recipients were at max pay. The inquiry will gather records to assess if charges have merit and will notify results. three workers remain employed.

Lodger's Tax Adds City Cash in July

The Lodger's tax brought in 1750 for July with 500 the largest check and 0.40 the smallest. Half of the tax goes to the Chamber of Commerce, a quarter of that to advertising and promotion, and the rest funds city recreation after admin fees. The total lodging business for Lordsburg July was about 87000.
