Jail Bond Issue Election Called

The Board of County Commissioners has called a special election for October 7 to approve a $225,000 bond for a new jail and sheriff office on the southwest corner of the courthouse square. The old jail is condemned and unsuitable for federal prisoners and lacks juvenile and women facilities. Only qualified electors who paid property tax last year may vote. Lordsburg voters at City Hall. Animas Rodeo Virden at their school houses. Cienega at Animas.

ASC Election Ballots Now Being Mailed

Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation community committee ballots are mailed. Voters receive two envelopes a plain secrecy envelope and a second addressed outer envelope to Hidalgo County ASCS Office with signature and date on the back. Certified ballots sit in a sealed box until Sept 24 and counting is public. Ballot secrecy remains preserved even with outer envelope signed.

L/Corporal Louis Rosales remains aboard the medical ship U S S Sanctuary undergoing major operations for injuries received August 31 in Quang Nam Vietnam. He is the son of Salvador Rosales and Mrs Leila DePoali. His prognosis is fair.

Architect Bob Baldock spoke to the Lions Club as Lordsburg in New Mexico advances a nine hole course two miles north of town near Highway 70. Membership is open to all races creeds and origins and construction on the cowssen and clubhouse is progressing rapidly with more local interest expected in coming years.
