Bids Open for Hidalgo County Fair Concessions
The Hidalgo 4H club will operate soft drink concessions at the Hidalgo County Fair on Sept 18 26 and 21. Three concession spots remain open for non profit groups offering candy gum popcorn caffe hot dogs hamburgers coffee and more with bids due by Sept 16 at 1 00 p m to D W Dunagan secretary Hidalgo Co Fair Board. The board may reject any bid and awarded groups may obtain extra merchandise if not duplicating others.

County Rodeo Queen contest opens to all county girls
A new rule allows any single county girl aged 16 to 19 who is a permanent resident to enter the Hid algo Rodeo Queen. She must ride in the opening parade and attend rodeo ceremonies on Sept 20 and 21, with judging split 50 50 between personality and horsemanship.

Lordsburg School Cafeteria Enlarged and Expanded
The Lordsburg school cafeteria was enlarged to connect to the old home economics room by an archway. Mrs. I. W. Cory manages, aided by Mrs. Doris Smith Mrs. Winfred Kuykendall and Julia Arvizo. Substitutes are Mrs. Carmen Levario and Miss Elsie Smith. Donations from Richins Bros. of Animas valley included 35 watermelons and 10 bags of onions. On Thursday noon September 4, 326 children were served a menu of milk, creamed turkey on toast corn buttered peas and carrots sliced tomatoes bread oleo sliced peaches and oatmeal cookies.

Hidalgo plans Old Timers Day on Friday September 19 with a 9 30 a m parade by the Old Timer association led by Harold Z Scofield and a 2 to 4 p m history tape session in the city hall auditorium directed by Lou Bachly of Silver City. The Old Timers dinner is at 5 30 p m in the Legion hall served cafeteria style. Membership requires 30 years residence in New Mexico.

Tragedy Strikes Local Family As Teen Driver Dies
Janice Marie Romaine, who would have turned 14, died Saturday after the pickup she drove overturned on Banner mine road a mile south of town. Three high school boys—Keith Johnson, Lonnie Little, and Dale Atwater—were with her, en route to football practice. Janice, daughter of Floyd T and Mrs. Romaine, was born September 17, 1938 in Watson Oklahoma. The Romaine family recently moved here. Mr Romaine is an engineer.
