A Garden Supper Party hosted by Mrs J O Saffold honored Ralph Williams and children in a twilight setting with colorful blooms and a snowy buffet. Guests included Mesdames Coursey Quillen Crews Burton Linn Eva Braden Gibbs Sadler Balch and young guests, plus Lt M Burton and Captain HK Hill returning from leave.
The Officers and ladies held their monthly dance at the Officer's Club on Saturday September 4. New attendees included Mrs. Coffman wife of Captain Coffman Mrs. Lynch wife of Lt. Lynch and Mrs. W Horrigan wife of Lt. W Horrigan. Music by the Camp orchestra and a midnight lunch were featured.
Mrs Garrett from Silver City reports the fall term starts Monday September 13. She dislikes idleness and plans a different curriculum for the year than last summer. The two boys also passed with flying colors.
At the Little Red School House luncheon on September 8, attendees noted perfect attendance. Elizabeth Burker and Vivian Brown registered pupils including Lady Churchill and Susie Steele while mothers Sparkey Coffman and Babe Traylor sent excuses. Food featured fried chicken and eclairs as classes opened with School Days song and students received memo pads and pencils.

Mrs. H. Gass reports Williams purchased the first Third War Bond on Thursday morning. The event marks an early commitment to the bond drive, described as good for the war effort.
Mr and Mrs W H Gragg prominent Miami residents visit Lordsburg enjoying the climate. Mrs Gragg is sister of Arthur and Charles Warner former owners of the 85 Mine which has produced copper for decades.
The public school and Sunday School combined for a Christmas program featuring recitations and songs led by students under Mr Griffith. Santa Claus distributed presents, followed by a merry Christmas dance as the tree stood in a festively decorated hall.
Aviation Cadet Fredrick W. Jones begins the Army Primary Flight Training Course at Thunderbird Field No 1 in Glendale Arizona. He is the son of Mrs Elnora P Jones of Route 1 Duncan Arizona and a Virden High School graduate who joined the service February 14 in Salt Lake City Utah. He has trained at Buckley Field Denver for basic, studied college training at Cedar City Utah and completed pre flight at Santa Ana California.
Mr and Mrs Slim Swain arrived in Lordsburg on September 2 and departed September 3 for a visit in El Paso. Mrs Frank Hindman accompanied them.
Lordsburg High School outlines its physical education goals as 54 boys in the program and 25 in football. The Maverick team, mostly inexperienced, shows speed and shifting backs with emphasis on blocking and passing. Practices run daily 4 to 6 at the stadium. season opens September 17 at Douglas with seven games planned including home games September 24 against Duncan and October 1 against Silver City.
Early Tuesday morning a fire broke out in the Lytle Stop Swap store on East Railroad Avenue from an undetermined origin. Firefighter Harold Bishop drove the hose wagon in double quick time in the absence of Fire Chief Dr. Baxter, and saved the building though the contents were badly charred. no one was in the store when the blaze started.
A goose dinner was served at the home of Mrs. Matie Symons Sunday evening. Attending were Set. John Miller and wife, Pfe. Budearns and wife, Cpl. Charlie Cook, Miss Dorothy Crowell, Sgt. Archibald M. Hogan and Mrs. Matie Symons. All enjoyed themselves very much.
The Missionary Society of the Nazarine church invites the public to a Silver Tea on September 15 from 2 to 5 PM at Mrs. Frank Hindmar’s home. Funds raised support the parsonage building fund. Guests urged to bring a companion.

Charles Stevens an8 engineer with the Southern Pacific is in Lordsburg Hospital after a group of track workers driving a motor car at night caused a crash near Gary station. His lower jaw was fractured in three places and he faces further care at a general hospital in San Francisco with his wife Mrs Amanda Stevens traveling with him for rest and recuperation.
An organizational plan reorganizes training commands into three geographic arenas. West Coast Training Center at Santa Ana becomes Western Flying Command. Randolph Field, Texas shifts to Central Training Command. Maxwell Field, Alabama serves as headquarters for Eastern Flying Training Command.
The DAAPF unit gains eight new Second Lieutenants to bolster air strength. The officers are James T. Tordwell, Leonard J. Brennan, Adviah D. Graveline, Robert W. Hooten, Wadeworth M. Minor, Hugh B. McCauley, John P. Schwefel, and Robert H. Wright.
S Sgt Harold Legs Endler's grid stars mold a punt pass and prayer attack on the field beside the South Chapel. They brace for a demanding slate including Arizona State Teachers College, Hollywood Mustangs, Oklahoma A and M, University of Colorado, Lubbock Army Air Field, San Diego Bombers, and Southwestern University at Georgetown Texas.
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society held its first regular meeting of the year at the home of Misses Helen Chase and Bess Johnston with Mrs. Jane Traylor assisting. An enchilada dinner was served to members including Helen Chase Nancy Chase Ima Fairly Bess Johnston Katherine Richards and others. Officers elected were Nancy Chase president Winnifred Laham vice president Virginia Lasalle recording secretary Bess Johnston corresponding secretary Helen Chase treasurer and Mary Lee Fairly parliamentarian. The next meeting is planned for October 14 at Mrs. Luella Clark’s home.
Rev and Mrs. Franklin R. Poage entertained at a very elaborate dinner Saturday night. Guests included FE. Mckley, P. M. McInnis and daughter, F. Holt, Dorothy, and Willard.
Citizens and troops joined the Third War Loan Bond parade in Lordsburg. Key organizers included C C Puller and Mrs Gaes, with Supt. Mayfield directing schools and the LHS band. Capt Iown led soldiers, the Drum and Bugle Corps performed, and Lt Hagan and H V Payne gave speeches. The event drew a large, patriotic crowd.
Pfe Beltis of the Lordaburg Army Camp completed 112 days of highly technical airplane mechanism training at Gulfport Field Army Air Forces technical command school Known for rugged conditions the camp is nicknamed Guadalcanal due to its harsh setup The graduate lived in a pup tent for eight days to simulate real combat conditions
The Pythian Sisters hosted a ben efit bridge and 42 party at the K of P Hall last Thursday evening. Prizes awarded to Dr. and Mrs. B. Austin, Mrs. Myrl Fierce, Mrs. Helen Green, Mrs. Burke Stiles at bridge, Mrs. Craddock and George Haltom at 42, and Mrs. J. W. Clark at cut prize. Prizes donated by Lehman’s, Fisher’s, H. H. Conder, The Union, Ben Franklin Store, Palace Theatre and Mrs. J. H. Clark.
The Monday Bridge Club met Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Helen Robertson. Attendees included Miss Nancy Chase Miss Helen Chase Mrs Bertha Koff Mrs Emman Scofield Mrs Floy Hudson Miss Bess Johnston Mrs Head Mrs Burke Stiles Mrs Traylor Miss Ima Fairly Mrs Myrl Pierce and Mrs Robertson.
A. L. Mason of Pittsburgh has joined the Fluorspar mill staff. The Indian Metals Company runs the fluorspar business and is noted as a growing local industry. N. Pinkney serves as vice-president and manager.
There was no dance at the U. 8. O. Wednesday evening because the orchestra was unavailable. The next dance is canceled for the caravan show at Camp U. 8. Q. on the following Wednesday.
Mrs. C. B. Austin went to El Paso on Wednesday and is expected to return today.
The Executive Board of the Womans Club will meet at the home of Mrs. J. R. Poindexter on Wednesday evening.
Miss Lola Mae Atkinson who visited friends in Lordsburg last week left Saturday for El Paso. She will teach there the coming year.
Mrs Cecelia Randall of Los Angeles is visiting in the home of Mr and Mrs Harry Wallace. Mrs Randall is a former resident of Lordeburg.
Mrs. Gerald Hunt left Friday evening to join her husband in San Antonio. They will return to Lordsburg together.
The Wednesday Bridge Club met this week with Mrs. E. J. Short. A single foursome played consisting of Mrs. W. F. Winters, Mrs. R. E. Buvens, Mrs. H. H. Bryant, and Mrs. Short.
Corp. George Clark left last Thursday for a month's visit with his sister Mrs. Lester Surgner and Mr. Surgner in Offdale California.
Good crowds attend Evangelistic services at the Church of Christ as Evangelist E A Watts delivers fine messages. Roy J. Smith leads inspirational songs with the singer wife Ruth Wood providing support in the meetings.
Dorothy Harper of Red Rock is among six New Mexico A and M freshmen awarded $51 scholarships for the 1943 44 academic year. Dr Carl A Tyre announced the awards noting the scholarship covers full tuition for three quarters based on top high school work. Seven upperclassmen also received scholarships.
Miss Josephine Bailey of the post office force staff returns from the Alpine resort country where she nearly froze to death. She now goes to Hot Springs to complete her vacation and thaw out.
Miss Ann Johnston of Midland becomes manager of the Western Union office succeeding John A. Wathen who moves to Las Cruces with his family. The note wishes him well and contrasts career moves with plans for local youths attending college.
The USO announces the roster of hostesses for next week with Friday hosting by Mrs Walter Mullina and Mrs Bennie Everett. Saturday features Mrs Mary Lee Fair and Sunday Mrs Roy Carson with Mrs Edmund Wright. Monday Guest is Mrs Thelma Ross. Tuesday and Thursday are closed. Wednesday hosts include Mrs E J Malone and Mrs Clara Kimbley.
Mrs Roddy Poindexter was guest of honor at an outdoor birthday picnic at the Community Public Service plant Saturday evening. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Robert Bareead, Boyd Nally and wife, Stephen Ostennord and wife, and the Roddy Poindexter family.
