Heather Wins State Teachers College Contract

Contractor Jack Heather of Lordsburg secured a state Teachers College project in Silver City valued around sixty thousand dollars. The bid was the lowest among five and covers the library auditorium and dormitory buildings plus furnishings, pending Finance Board approval and contract award.

Luncheon Club Delivers Welcoming Program

Last Tuesday the Luncheon Club featured J C B Amos as the first speaker who urged community cooperation. Judge Ryan bids fond farewell to Hidalgo admirers

Judge Raymond R. Ryan visited Hidalgo county on Monday to wrap up legal matters and bid farewell to friends. He announced his move to Albuquerque for a new position, thanked supporters, and noted his wife will remain on the State Normal College board of regents as they relocate and adjust to the transition.

The State High Way Department with chambers of commerce and others distributes postal card questionnaires to non resident tourists during September. It seeks travel details, accommodations, spending, and route choices to aid highway development. A concurrent traffic census runs Sept 11 with 92 enumerators at 128 stations to classify vehicles and distinguish New Mexico from foreign traffic for tax analysis.

A regional Boy Scouts council is formed spanning Lina, Hidalgo, Dona Ana, Grant and Sierra counties with Frank Light named president and Glyde D. Baker as scout executive. Thirteen Churches in Conference Here

The Southwestern Baptist Association with thirteen churches met at Lordsburg Church for three days ending with a Wednesday evening service led by Moderator KI McKamy of Anthony New Mexico. The program featured talks inspirational messages music and cooperative spirit between Baptist and other churches. A dinner prepared by the W M B group gathered visitors at a thirty foot table beside the church and Lordsburg homes hosted guests to ensure a splendid stay.

Governor Dillon appoints Carl P. Dunifon of Silver City to succeed Judge Raymond Kh. Sivan who resigned. County Clerk Cross received a telephone message from the new judge stating he will provide particulars next week.

King of Cantaloupes Brings 18-Pound Fruit to Liberal Office

J Marquess of Franklin presented a cantaloupe weighing 18 pounds to the Liberal office. The fruit measured 8 inches around and was not cut to preserve seeds. The melon’s aroma matched typical cantaloupes and the measurements were taken with an editorial tape measure.

Lordsburg Schools Open On Sept Sixth

The Lordsburg Public Schools begin regular session on Tuesday September sixth with grades one to six at usual places. Seventh grade reports to the northwest Wilson School room under Miss Scofield until the new High School is ready. Grades eight and the High School attend at the Mevoy building south end.

Students urged to fetch high school credit lists this week

Due to chaotic storage of Heath School records, ninth to twelfth grade students must obtain a complete list of subjects completed and credits on high school records and deliver it to the superintendent at his home this week excluding Saturday morning. The lists will be checked later for verification to aid proper registration.

Vaudeville by the Pythian Sisters event highlight

On Friday evening September 9 the Pythian Sisters present a vaudeville show in Isany featuring Mrs Black's Pink Tea with a cast of ladies of color. The program includes several sketches expected to please. children 15 cents at the door and refreshments after the show.
