Lordsburg bank announces name change to Western Bank effective November 1 1982. The First National Bank of Lordsburg shareholders approved the change April 27 1982. Fred Ewing says directors officers and employees stay in place and FDIC coverage and Fed membership continue without interruption. Existing checks and documents remain usable during the transition. The bank aims to preserve local service and anticipates growth.

Democratic Lt Governor candidate Mike Runnels will stop in the area this Sunday October 31 arriving at Lordsburg Municipal Airport in the afternoon. He will attend a Free Bar-B-Que at Short Park sponsored by Hidalgo County Democratic Party and Volunteers to Elect Democrats. Runnels son of former Congressman Harold Runnels and current Hidalgo County party leaders, has a long political background including Santa Fe City Council service and roles in energy and public broadcasting. He aims to be an effective spokesman for New Mexicans as Lt Governor.
