Mavericks Isily Defeat Ruidoso 20-0 in Conference Opener

The Lordsburg Mavericks defeated Ruidoso 20 to 0 for their first conference win. Valdez scored two first-half touchdowns on a 77 yard run and a 33 yard reset, Rodriguez connected on a long pass to Tony for the third score, and Castillo kicked the extra point. Officials noted a ragged offense but strong Maverick defense led by Fagardo, Castillo and Joe. Next, Lordsburg faces Hot Springs Tigers at 7 30 Saturday night seeking more polish and fewer mistakes.

Catholic Youth Club Clean-Up Plans Cemetery for Souls Day

The Catholic Youth Club teenagers will meet Sunday October 30 for a special service project. They aim to clean the cemetery to show the community their willingness to help keep Lordsburg clean and hope other church groups will join the effort.

Captain Jesus Estrada Assigned Battalion Intelligence Officer

Captain Jesus J. Estrada commander of Battery C 2nd Battalion New Mexico National Guard has become battalion Intelligence Officer. He relinquished Battery C to Lt. Juan Moralez and began duties October 25. A World War II Navy veteran aboard USS North Carolina, he has 18 years in the National Guard. He is married to Petra Duran and lives at 608 East 7th Street with two children, Diddy and Elias.

Rex Daws to Lead Chamber as Secretary-Manager

Rex T. Daws, retired Army Major, will start duties as Chamber of Commerce secretary-manager November 8. He brings post military management and accounting experience since 1944. Mrs Daws and their daughter will reside at Yucca Trailer Park. Final ballots, eight names with four directors to be chosen, will be mailed in November.

Missing Local Boy Found In Los Angeles

The sheriff's office was notified at 9 am Thursday that Marvin De La Garza, 15, had been picked up in Los Angeles and was in care of the Child Welfare Dept there. The youth, son of Manuel and (Mrs.) De La Garza, had been the object of an intensive search south of Lordsburg after being reported missing Monday. A U.S. Border Patrol airplane joined the search Thursday morning. The parents left Thursday to bring him home.

Miss Junell Dunagan daughter of Mr and Mrs Damon Dunagan will represent Lordsburg as the Sun Carnival Princess during holiday festivities in El Paso. A Lordsburg High School graduate she excelled as cheerleader band member yearbook editor and NHS officer. She attends University of Arizona majoring in Home Economics and has pledged Chi Omega with multiple campus roles. The Lords burg Church of Christ hosts a fifth Sunday Rally on October 31 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. A 5:30 p.m. covered dish supper follows, with Dr. C. C. Lordsburg Youth Killed In Wreck

Joseph Guzman Martinez age 20 of Lordsburg died after an auto accident on the Silver City road five miles north of Lordsburg about 10 30 p m. He was a passenger in a car driven by Jimmy Arredondo who left the roadway and overturned. Arredondo was hospitalized for shock and minor injuries and released next morning. The youths were returning from a social function in Silver City.

Burglars Break Into Lordsburg Post Office

The Lordsburg Post Office was broken into in the early hours Sunday. Patrolman Juan Moralez found the scene at 4 am with glass broken at the front door and a side door. An attempted search for cash failed as safes held money orders and cash. keys were taken and many recovered near Railway Blvd. Local and county agencies collaborate with J R Caraveo leading the investigation and several leads are being pursued.
