Dr. Michael Barton M D joins C P Austin M D at the Austin Clinic on Main Street in Lordsburg with his wife Carol and four children. He comes from Dillon Montana and will relocate by December 1. He trained in Basel Kansas City Cleveland New York and has led surgeries at VA hospitals in Missouri and Texas. He is a diplomat of the American Boards of Surgery and a World War II veteran with the Eighth Army in Africa.
Hidalgo County Jaycees sponsor a Clean Up and Fix Up Week in Lordsburg from November 7 to 15. Chairman Dale Gray and Co-Chairman Tommy George lead a committee aiming to boost tourism and business, improve city pride, and invite organizations to assist in beautifying the town.
The Btry C 2nd AW Bn SP 200th Arty National Guard will hold drills November 6 and 7. Saturday drill starts at 9 50 a m and Sunday at 7 50 a m. Lt Juan P Moralez, the new unit commander, asks members to bring field equipment for turn in and to exclude clothing.

Lordsburg High School invites all parents to a special night on Tuesday November 9. The program begins with a 7 30 p.m. assembly followed by ten minute class visits to explain each subject. Non parents may attend to observe the school’s operations.
Lordsburg Mavericks blister Hot Springs Tigers 46 to 6 in a conference win. Ernesto Renteria returned a kickoff for 64 yards and scored twice as Jerry Valdez added a touchdown, and Leandro Castillo, Ruben Bassa, Scotty Jones, and Rafael Rodriguez contributed scores. The win secures second place with Hatch visiting for a Friday night clash at 7:30.
The Landsburg Sdong Club kicks off a two day door to door broom sale to support the Light Conservation Fund. Items from the New Mexico School for the Blind will be sold at downtown locations with a breakfast food box contest for a steam iron donated by the Community Public Service Company. Proceeds fund eye exams and glasses for needy children and other sight conservation efforts. The drive includes Friday and Saturday door to door campaigns and a truck visiting the Animas Cotton City area.
Animas Schools will observe American Education Week with an Open House on Wednesday November 10 starting at 6 30 p m Supt H R Overholt invites all parents and friends to attend to meet teachers see subjects and view new facilities Room visits run until 8 30 p m followed by an auditorium program faculty introductions student council guides and student activities.
A memorial service will be held at the American Legion Hall on Thursday November 11 at 7 30 p m. Commander W W Scott says Arnold Nard will direct the service with all Legion and auxiliary members urged to attend and the public welcome
Workday at the First Methodist Church is this Saturday November 6 beginning at 1 00 p m and continuing through the evening with a sack supper at 6 00 p m All parishioners are invited to help with church chores and preparations for upcoming events.
