Remarkable Dixie Overland Highway Record Prompts Publicity Drive

Col Fletcher and associates set a 71 hour 15 minute coast to coast milestone from San Diego to Savannah on the Dixie Overland Highway. Savannah urged large publicity and fundraising to promote the all year snow free transcontinental route, with stops across California, Arizona, Texas, and Florida, to connect the Pacific to the Atlantic.

Lordsburg Luncheon Club Approves Bond Issue

At the regular luncheon the Lordsburg Luncheon Club endorsed the court house and jail bond issue. County Treasurer Earle Kerr explained costs to taxpayers and how savings from reduced rent and boarding prisoners could repay the debt in years, noting the burden on railroads and corporate interests.

Farewell Reception for Mrs. E. F. Lyday

A large farewell for Mrs. E F Lyday was held Monday at Mrs. W H Small's home with many attendees. The guest honored read two pieces and her pupil Beulah Creamer contributed two more. Mrs Lyday received a amber toilet set as a token of love and the Lydays depart for Los Angeles Friday noon amid good will and God-speed.

New Mexico Federation Convention Highlights in Carlsbad

Mrs. Claude Fuller, second district president, led Lordsburg delegates at the 15th annual New Mexico State Federation convention in Carlsbad. The meeting featured a business turn, resolutions for a state school for the feeble minded, highway sign removal, and game protection. A 22-voice state chorus, Artesia singers, and a strong art and music program framed formal events, with remarks by Dr. Zimmerman on international relations and memories of Atlantic City.

Hidalgo County Tops State in Tax Collection Rate

County Treasurer Earle Kerr presided over Hidalgo County achieving 97 percent tax collection, the highest in the state. Neighboring Grant and Lana counties follow, while Hidalgo boasts the lowest general tax rate and the second lowest overall tax rate in the state.

Week End at Carlsbad Caverns Trip Draws Carlsbad Ladies

County Agent L W Gleason and Mrs Gleason hosted a weekend party at Dun can club with 60 members including high school girls and teachers. The highlight was a 46th trip to Carlsbad Caverns with tours, lunches, and speeches by state officers and dignitaries including Mrs Fuller and Mrs Hannett. Lordsburg-Virden Road Approved By F A Head

H P Martin and Gi Wilhoite of the Federal Bureau of Public Roads inspected the Lordsburg Virden highway work under construction and pronounced it moving rapidly and in proper form. Engineer Card is said to be overseeing the project well.
