The New Mexico Army National Guard and parents for Drug Free Youth sponsor a Halloween Dance on October 27 from 8 to 12 at the National Guard Armory 722 East Second Street. Admission is free, refreshments provided, and prizes awarded for best costume. Proceeds support youth programs and future safety.

The administration warns fans from both schools that alcohol is prohibited at school activities. Vehicles and ice chests may be searched at the gate by local law enforcement. Fans are urged to show good behavior and support the athletes and coaches during the game.

Skeen Schedule Change Visit by U S Representative Joe Skeen

U S Representative Joe Skeen has shifted his Hidalgo County itinerary to Thursday November 1. A noon Dutch treat luncheon at the American Restaurant is open to the public, with County City officials and Chamber of Commerce members invited. Skeen will attend Animas High School, visit Burgett's Rose Farm, and close with a 6:30 pm Republican candidates dinner at the same restaurant.

Smith Plea for Playas Road Access in Hidalgo County

Senator John Smith testified before the State Highway Commission in Sunland Park last week urging immediate opening of Playas Road. He cited Hidalgo County lacking doctors and hospitals, stressing rural residents and workers from a major company need better access to medical facilities.

Dates For Flu Shot Clinics Announced

The Hidalgo Health Office releases flu shot clinic dates in several towns with clinics at the Health Dept in Lordsburg, the Community Center in Rodeo, Dunagan Bakery in Virden, and the public in Virden on November 9. Vaccine priority lists include adults and children with chronic cardiovascular or lung disorders, nursing home residents, healthy adults over 65, and children on long term aspirin therapy. General public may inquire about vaccine availability. Vaccine not given to those with acute illness or egg allergies. Former County Manager Tom Anderson notes road work progress and outstanding right of way issues as Hidalgo County works with the State Highway Department to open the road. Punt Pass And Kick Awards At Lordsburg Optimist Night

Lordsburg City Council heard a priority needs assessment from Merill Goodwyn of the New Mexico F A A. About 1 million in improvements were discussed and 3 million in federal allocations to New Mexico airports were noted. Immediate needs include a maintenance program, beacon replacement, and upgrading runway lenses from single to double face.

Unsolved Mystery Airs Wednesday Segment Near Lordsburg

NBC Unsolved Mysteries will air a Lordsburg filmed piece on Wednesday October 31 at 7 00 PM on channel 9 for Lordsburg viewers. The segment centers on David Stone who remains missing two years after his disappearance. The show features local participants from Cotton City Playas Lordsburg and surrounding areas and includes a reenactment shot in 1990 under Deputy Sheriff Bill Cavaliere who led the investigation.

Officer Michael Jimenez has been transferred to Silver City as of November 12 and Officer Lynn Watley will be stationed in Lordsburg effective December 10.
