A crowd heard Hugh and candidates including Dr. Charles Lee Hill and A. Matson speak at the Up-to-Date cafe and Star Theatre. Hill defended the Smith-McNary bill and tax distributions while outlining plans for the state. Matson praised Governor Mechem’s handling of the State Bank affair. Vale Don School To Be Expanded At 18000 Cost

The Heather Construction Co. carves a rock basement and installs concrete for a new Vale Don school. The two story concrete adobe building with brick trim will house steam heat hot and cold water a library and a principal’s office. Bond election passed unanimously to fund the $18000 project. The contract plans to hand keys to President Karl J. Mahler of the Board of Education around January first.

Mrs Olney Seeks Voter Views On Prohibition Stance

Letter from Mrs. Olney of Steins New Mexico dated Oct 23 1999 asks national candidates to state their positions on the 18th Amendment bootlegging enforcement and officer recalls. She argues women want the ballot for reasoned influence and urges candidates to declare their stands.

A small purse was found containing a few coins and the finder requests the owner contact the Bee Liberal office to claim. The note mentions the amount as two bits.

Speakers lauded candidates including Supreme Court aspirant and Governor Pankey. True-blue Hugh urged friendship and brotherhood as Morningstar introduced Pankey as the state’s largest single taxpayer. Valedon Boxing Card Draws Big Local Crowd

The Hlas Noche show at the W O W hall in Valedon featured 12 round bouts with Valedon fighters achieving two wins. Batting Campas faced Bating Quintana in a fast contest won by Quintana in the first round, while Victor Kaseon defeated Gonzalez on a foul call. Hernandez of Valedon edged Carlo of Central after six rounds with Nay Gammon referee.

Star Theatre Weekly Program Highlights

Star Theatre lists a busy slate with Fox feature films on Sunday October 20 and a two part run on Monday and Tuesday October 30 and 31. Death of Fred Hightower in horse accident at Lyall ranch

Dr Crocker rushed to San Rim on Monday for Fred L Hightower who was thrown by a horse that previously broke Joe Olney s leg. The animal dragged and kicked him severely, and he died before the doctors arrival. Burial set at Steins.

Dr Cain of the First Marine Aviation Corps guided a Friday operation as he ferried Fred Sherman aboard the Curtis KIdane. He landed in New York from Miami on Friday April 13 and sailed with 140 ships in convoy. Forty days later the group reached France on Friday.

Mining equipment found in the Graham and Downey shaft

Abandoned shaft near the DD Haindbolt ranch uncovered by Mesnew Grahan and Downey workers. Shaft about 100 feet deep with vein lip 40 feet followed. Found a complete set of tools, ladders, and ore buckets at bottom. Ore samples show about 0.5 to 1.0 ounce gold and 70 ounces silver per ton, with higher results in some samples.

Tom Pulcher, arrested in connection with a 1919 train robbery near Guthrie and the U S Mail heist by the Paso and Southwestern, is back home after posting 7500 bond.
