Museum donations sought for new exhibit

Robertson of the Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce asks organizations and individuals to donate items for the new museum. The Pythian Sisters have already donated old records. Businesses with display cases are also encouraged to contribute.

Hidalgo County farm receipts totaled 14 292 000 for the year, with about 29 percent from crops and 71 percent from livestock poultry and dairy marketing. The rise reflects increased output offsetting lower prices, though net income did not rise proportionally due to inflation.

Lordsburg Museum Nears Opening In Hidalgo County

Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce reports progress toward a city museum with space donated by Claude Speer. The First National Bank of Lordsburg matched donations to reach a $10,000 total. Roberts on notes future expansion and city property between I-10 and the nursing home may be used. Sides urges members to attend State Highway Department meeting on October 25 for billboard matters. A projector unit will be installed at the Port of Entry to spotlight Hidalgo County points of interest.

District Attorney Serna Dies In Log Crash Near Lordsburg

Edison C. Serna 54 a prominent Mexican American attorney and longtime district attorney of Grant County died in a one car crash on State Road 90 near Lordsburg as he drove with ASA Kelly to Silver City. The car overturned twice and Kelly suffered minor injuries. Serna's seat was up for reelection in 1980 and a temporary replacement would be named by the governor. He practiced since 1950 after studying at Western New Mexico University and Tulane Law School. He held multiple civic and professional posts and was survived by his wife Barbara and three sons. Funeral and burial details followed with rosary and Mass at St. Vincent's in Silver City.

The BLM held a well attended meeting in Lordsburg on Thursday night October 13 led by District Manager Dan Rathbun and area manager Roy Jackson guiding local land management discussions.

Phelps Dodge Names Richard T. Moolick Senior Vice President

Phelps Dodge Corporation announced the election of Richard T. Moolick as Senior Vice President. Moolick, 56, has been a vice president since 1975 and also serves as president of Western Nuclear, Inc., the uranium mining subsidiary. He directs oil gas and coal exploration and development and began with the company in 1949 as a geologist at Morenci Arizona. He rose to Chief Engineer and General Superintendent before leading the Tyrone New Mexico branch and later Western Operations in Douglas Arizona.

Police Activity Rises in Lordsburg Week End Oct 17

Lordsburg City Police reported a busy week ending October 17 with one burglary and one larceny investigated, plus one auto accident with injury and three without injuries. The force handled five bar calls, 42 public assistance calls, and four false alarms, investigated four assaults, and recovered a stolen vehicle.
