PTA Discusses Scholarship for 1934 Graduates

President G P Jeffus led a small turnout at the PTA meeting. The group voted to present a scholarship to a worthy member of the graduating class of 1934. A committee named Fern Silver A H Johnson and W C Mearns will work on the plan.

High School Library Receives Three Donated Books

The High School Library has received three fiction titles donated by William Martin. The books are Torchy by Ford The Lock and Key Library modern Finglish stories and Heritage of the Sioux by Bower. All donations are gratefully received.

Wilson Fifth Grade Beats Central 14 to 0

Wilson fifth graders defeated Central fifth graders 14 to 0 on Thursday. Miss Scofield's class won the checkerboard chart with an average of 69. Rubio children in grades two four and five withdrew from school to go to Phoenix. Arvizo and Moncayo withdrew from fourth grade. Bessie Gutierrez is out of school due to illness.

Mammoth Watermelon Attracts Attention In Desert Farm Display

A 54 pound watermelon grows at the Government and State Experiment Farm on the Barney Wood ranch south of Lordsburg. The fruit showcases desert farming success with water use and cultivation. Mr Wood also reports other crops ripening well and cantaloupes considered among the finest.

Mohair Queen of Arizona Ships Four Cars Prom

Mrs M. L. Claridge known as the Mohair Queen of Arizona and buying agent for Arizona and New Mexico for Ryder and Brown of Boston shipped four cars of mohair from Lordsburg and Hachita pools totaling 130000 pounds. The sale involved producers Frank Brown and others, with sales coordination by G L Ross Eugene Montague and E J Wood for Hidalgo county.

Senator Atwood Secures Home Owner's Loan Post

Senator Lee Brown Atwood has been chosen as attorney for the Home Owner's Loan Corporation in Hidalgo County Texas. E. C. Robertson, state manager in Washington, confirms the appointment. Many applications come from New Mexico and Hidalgo may have several soon. One application reportedly reached President Roosevelt before an Hidalgo attorney was named.
