El Paso Natural Gas seeks 10 percent wholesale rate rise
El Paso Natural Gas Company asked the Federal Power Commission for authority to raise rates by about 10 percent for wholesale customers in Arizona California southern Nevada New Mexico and west Texas. The firm sought conditional power to adjust rates for possible producer price increases and said the base 3.16 cent per thousand cubic feet rise would cover higher costs and would add about 36.5 million dollars in annual revenue. If passed to residential users it would add roughly one cent per day per household. The company noted a target return of 8.25 percent on invested capital and warned increases from higher producer prices could not exceed 12.6 cents per thousand cubic feet and would apply only if producer charges rise.
