Baptist Assn Holds Annual Meeting Here in Lordsburg

The Southwestern Baptist Association met at the First Baptist Church of Lordsburg on October 12. Resolutions urged opposition to alcohol sales, church state separation, Christian living, youth counseling, marriage vows, opposition to pornographic literature, enforcement of law, and gratitude to Moderator M. E. Stevens for two years of service. Acknowledgment was made to the host church and pastor for hospitality.

Bankers Award Presented for Conservation Efforts

Three farmers and ranchers in the Animal and Virden Soil and Water Conservation Districts receive Bankers Awards for outstanding conservation work. Fred Ewing of Lordsburg First National Bank distributes the honors at the Hidalgo Farm Bureau meeting in Lordsburg on October 11. Recipients include Billy Veck (posthumous, accepted by Harriet Veck), Richard R. Blakey (accepted by Harry McCauley), and L. M. Hatch, as chosen by district supervisors.

Buvens Named HADECO Head in Hidalgo County

Gilbert Buvens was named president of Hidalgo Area Development Corp at a board meeting after the annual stockholders meeting at the American Legion Hall on Monday October 13. Richard B. Rice became vice president replacing R S Dockum who was elected director. Claude E Speer also elected director while Harold Bishop and Ralph Burton were reelected directors for two more years.

El Paso Natural Gas seeks 10 percent wholesale rate rise

El Paso Natural Gas Company asked the Federal Power Commission for authority to raise rates by about 10 percent for wholesale customers in Arizona California southern Nevada New Mexico and west Texas. The firm sought conditional power to adjust rates for possible producer price increases and said the base 3.16 cent per thousand cubic feet rise would cover higher costs and would add about 36.5 million dollars in annual revenue. If passed to residential users it would add roughly one cent per day per household. The company noted a target return of 8.25 percent on invested capital and warned increases from higher producer prices could not exceed 12.6 cents per thousand cubic feet and would apply only if producer charges rise.

Buster Estrada earned offensive player of the week and Charlie Winslow defensive player of the week as the Mavericks prepare to host Duncan Wildkats at 8 p.m.

Emergency Radio Alerts for Deer Hunters Program

Emergency messages for deer hunters will be delivered via radio through a cooperation among state radio stations State Police and the Department of Game and Fish Calls will be routed to the area hunter and assessed for an emergency Hunters may contact the Department of Game and Fish during work hours and State Police after hours and on weekends Hunters are urged to submit the form on page 4 of the hunting proclamation to aid location during emergencies Broadcast times for cooperating stations are listed with most programs set for early morning and midday.
