In the recent ASC committee election for Hidalgo County the Animas community elected George Jackson Jr as chairman Edward Elbrock as vice chairman George Pendleton as regular member Paul Dunagan as first alternate and W C Miller as second alternate. Lordsburg chose Max H DeVilbiss as chairman Joe Finley as vice chairman Edmond Davis as regular member J C Roark as first alternate Clyde L Richins as second alternate. Virden elected Merlin Cloane as chairman L M Hatch as vice chairman Marion Morternse as regular member Stanley Thyger son as first alternate Sam Johns as second alternate. The newly elected delegates to the October 1969 convention re elected Antone Thyger son for a three year term and elected Edmond Davis first alternate and L M Hatch second alternate for one year terms. Incumbents are W G Richards chairman term ends 1970 and Johnnie Davis regular member term ends 1971.

Virden Valley SWSD Elects Two Supervisors in Mail Ballot

Virden Valley Soil and Water Conservation District re elected L A Conner announced the election results Marvin Jones and Marion Mortenson were chosen for three year terms by mail September 30 1969 Jones is a returning supervisor Mortenson is new Both own farms in the Virden Valley and support conservation The district will hold its annual meeting October 9 to elect officers The board thanks participants for their involvement in the election.

Lions Club Sets October 31 and November 1 Broom Sale

The Lordsburg Lions Club schedules its annual broom sale for October 31 and November 1 with many household items, including brooms made by the blind. New member Bill Irwin, Sea Shell Motel manager, joined at the Tuesday El Charro meeting.

Richardson Named Hidalgo Undersheriff by Sheriff McCarty

Chad D. Richardson has been named undersheriff for Hidalgo County by Sheriff Leroy McCarty. He replaces Stanley Archibald who resigned effective October 1. The sheriff's office has received delivery of their second car, a Ford Bronco four wheel drive vehicle suitable for going over rough terrain.

Mavericks Over Cobre 14 0 in Bayard Victory

Lordsburg Mavericks upset the Cobre Indians 14 to 0 on Friday at Bayard. Porkey Martinez, Buster Estrada and Louis Bassa starred as Martinez rushed 22 times for 144 yards and Estrada 17 carries for 95 yards. The win improves the Mavericks to two wins after an 0-3 start as they prepare to visit Tularosa tonight.

PP&E Competition Set For October 16

The Ford Dealers NFL 1969 Punt Pass & Kick contest will be held Thursday October 16 at 6 p.m. at the football stadium. Local sponsors include Smith Ford Wrights Bakery Saucedo's Super Market Price's Cremories and the First National Bank. Boys ages 8 to 13 may enter and eight will advance to the Deming zone on October 18. Hidalgo Jail Bond Issue Passes in Special Election

The Hidalgo County Jail Bond Issue passed 171 to 130 in a special election. Precinct results show Lordsburg 128 65 Rodeo 3 17 Animas 15 38 Virden 25 10. Quinn and Co. of Albuquerque will issue the bonds totaling 225000 for a new jail complex and courthouse rehabilitation.

C of C Executives To Hold Spring Meet Here

The New Mexico Chamber of Commerce Executives Association will hold its 1970 spring meeting in Lordsburg. Secretary manager Glenn Dorsett of the Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber announced the invitation extended at Callup last fall was accepted. About 150 to 200 out of town visitors are expected.

Suspect Charged With Attempted Rape

Raymond Ortega jailed September 30 in lieu of a $2,000 bond on an attempted rape charge. The offense allegedly occurred in the courthouse yard around 2 am on the date cited.
