Lordsburg council approves a public hearing on issuing pollution control bonds for Phelps Dodge to refinance existing debt. Playas Smelter meets clean air standards and Phelps Dodge cites county payroll of 20 million with Lordsburg workers rising from 65 to 92.
County Commission opens with Resolution 92-31 to refinance pollution control revenue bonds held by Phelps Dodge. C. Brown indicated the proposal as the first order of business on the agenda.
Memorial service notes the life of Ethel Bryan Short born July 3 1904 in Roswell New Mexico. She worked as a telegraph operator for Western Union in Mesa and Carrizozo and Lordsburg and later held management roles. The notice also references a November 5 1992 public hearing and a Hunter Safety class deadline October 16 with classes starting October 17 at Hidalgo County Courthouse.
The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy Lordsburg will offer all day cholesterol screening Friday with Pharmacist Chris Sanders noting quick service and a minimal $6.00 charge. The event is supported by the Hidalgo Council of Governments as Hidalgo County partners.

Sue Statesman RN is appointed Director of Nursing Services at Sunshine Haven Nursing Home in Lordsburg. A 20 year nursing veteran, she rose from assistant to LPN to RN, and previously ran hospital administration in Tucson. She commutes daily from Bowie, praising the facility’s care and staff.
Edith S. Cureton died Friday October 2 at her daughter’s home in Gila New Mexico born October 4 1897 in Silver City to Samuel Sloan and Tillie Hall Sloan married George H. Cureton October 25 1916 lived in Burro Mountains area Survivors include two sons James S. Cureton Robert H. Cureton and daughter Dorothy Jackson grand and great grandchildren Pallbearers were grandsons Funeral held October 5 at Curtis Bright Funeral Home Chapel Silver City burial at Mountain View Cemetery Lordsburg officiated by Rev David Goble
