Lordsburg Elks Sponsor Drug Awareness Month
The Lordsburg Elks Lodge begins a Drug Awareness Month with Lordsburg Schools running October 1 to 31. Elks members Billy Burt, George Basabilvaso and David Tarango will distribute literature at schools, sponsor poster contests, and provide coloring books. Participants receive sun glasses and wrist watches. Elks were at Central School on Wednesday.

Hunter Safety Classes Offered by Hidalgo County Extension
The Hidalgo County Extension Service will run a hunter safety course at the Hidalgo County Courthouse basement starting Saturday October 17 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and continuing Tuesday and Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. First time hunters must attend all sessions and pass the final exam to qualify for a safety card. Parent attendance is advised for youths nine and under and each participant must provide a social security number during registration. Deadline to register is Friday October 16. The Lordsburg Lions Club hosts its annual all you can eat pancake supper at Lordsburg High School Cafetorium from 5 30 to 7 30 Friday. Proceeds fund glasses for the needy scholarships and civic programs. Chairman Willie McDonald and Chief Chef Harold Bishop lead Lions to feed football fans before the Lordsburg Maverick and Tularosa game at Maverick Stadium.
