Fine road to Animas smooth for Lordsburg trip

Mrs. Viola Wright and her daughter Mrs. Felix Gauthier drove from Animas to Lordsburg without shifting gears for the first time reported to a Liberal representative. Wright presented a sample of peaches from her hotel yard to the chamber of commerce.

Hatfields And Dunagan Have Great Auto Trip

W B Hatfield council member and Mrs Hatfield with Benny Dunagan completed a 4691 mile motor journey returning home with one small puncture. They toured Amarillo Texas Chickasha Oklahoma Wichita Kansas City Joplin Van Buren Ark Joplin and Kansas City and met relatives in an 45 year reunion then traced through New Mexico and Arizona visiting Santa Fe Albuquerque Prescott Phoenix Tucson Tombstone Bisbee Douglas Cloverdale and the old home ranch of Herbert Strange and family.

Lions Club Hosts Dr Hollinger Guests and Plans Events

The Lions Club held a noon meeting with Dr E C Hollinger of State College as guest speaker. Lordsburg grads to State College, guests from federal and employment bureaus spoke, and plans emerged for Woman's Club piano use, Ladies' night, and Mavericks vs Willcox entertainment. Mohair Buyers Pay Record Prices in Lordsburg Shipment

Abe Meyer Jr and Milton Cohen, mohair buyers, shipped 41 248 pounds from Lordsburg last week. Producers earned 42 cents per pound for goat hair and 52 cents for kid hair, the highest prices paid so far this year. Clippers largely from Virden and Hachita areas.

The W M U met Wednesday afternoon with Mrs J M Jones as hostess. The fifth chapter of Adta led by Mrs B Corbell provided an interesting study. CCC officers visit Animas to discuss local cooperation

Captain Clay Preston of the UBA and Lt. C. Adams of the USN with Lt. Meyers of the Virden CCC sub district temporarily in Animas on Wednesday. They met with the Chamber of Commerce Mayor E. C. DeMoss and Dr. C. B. Austin to plan collaboration with surrounding CCC camps.

Mr and Mrs FE O Wogatad from Dryden say sixty ships visited their airport area last month including Kelly Field students. They live in a steam heated electric home near the office at the airport noting modern conveniences few roads away.

Mr and Mrs Claude Olney Mrs Farle Kerr and Howard Deaton visited Los Angeles as guests of USC to watch the Trojans defeat the College of the Pacific. Wedding in Methodist Church unites Harold Beafield and Emma Carola

A happy ceremony was held in Lordsburg Deming at the Methodist Church on Sunday October 6 Rev H M Markel officiated uniting Harold F E Beafield and Miss Emma Carola in matrimony. The couple will reside in Lordsburg after a brief wedding trip to Douglas and Bisbee and then return to Deming before moving to Lordsburg next year.

Death of Mrs Cecelia Randall Visits Lordsburg Ties to Robson Family

Mrs Cecelia Randall of Los Angeles arrived Tuesday to visit Mr and Mrs Marry Wallace and friends. She stopped in Tucson for the funeral of Mrs Mary Robson wife of John Robson longtime Lordsburg residents. Robson family had moved to Tucson years ago and all ten children attended the service.

Bowen elected president of Community Public Service firm

RK L Bowen was elevated to the presidency of Community Public Service company at a Chicago board meeting on October 2. A Van Alstyne Texas native, Bowen has been with the company and its predecessors since 1921 and began as a line walker in Graham Texas. The board also named N KR Parsons treasurer Bennett L Smith secretary and W Z Leatherwood assistant secretary as experienced utility officers continue in management. The firm serves incity gas water and ice in over 200 towns across Texas New Mexico Louisiana and Kentucky.

Tragic Lordsboro Airport Crash Kills Col Davis and Co Pilot

A crash at Lordsboro Airport on a Monday afternoon during a takeoff attempt killed Col Davis and his co pilot Sergeant Owens. The aircraft struck a fence and burned. Davis died of burns, Owens later died at Lordsboro Hospital. A San Diego Board of Inquiry investigated, with funeral arrangements held in San Diego before burial in Arlington Cemetery.

Homecoming Day Observed at Baptist Church

Homecoming day was observed at the church with Sunday School certificates issued to twenty pupils by the superintendent. The Lord's supper occurred at the eleven o'clock service followed by a short sermon from Pastor M C Moore. A pile dinner and old fashioned songs filled the day. Eight o'clock evening sermon titled Crowing The Dead Line. Two new members added to the church.

Lordsburg Polo Team Triumphs Over Fifth Cavalry

Lordsburg poloists Dick Whittenberg D W Collins Sherwood Culberson and Maurice Connor defeated the crack Fifth U S Cavalry team at Ft Bliss with Collins scoring two goals and Connor Whittenberg one each after a handicap. Silver City also beat the Seventh Cavalry the same day.
