Tonight at 7 30 the Mavericks host Hot Springs in the first home football game and proceeds from the entry benefit support New Mexico activities. Commissioner Bingaman praises the Revenue Bureau for strong collections and a law that protects New Mexico producers and boosts highway revenues.
Virden 4-H girls and leaders held a crowded achievement day in a social room filled with displays marking the best exhibits yet. Verma Lunt presided as groups performed a flag drill and other demonstrations while awards for first and second year sewing, cooking, and leadership honors were announced.
Burton G. Dwyer assistant state Way engineer toured Silver City Week reporting an early intent to construct the Lordsburg Silver highway as part of Highway 180 but noting no earth work has yet begun.
The Church of the Nazarene Gay announces regular services on October 6 with 830 A M Sunday School 11:00 A M sermon titled The Beauty of Holiness and 145 P M Evening Evangelistic. Pastor TB Stanton invites all to attend.
Treasurers and county collectors promote paying delinquent taxes before December 1, 1935 under Chapter 133 of 1935 laws. June 30 1935 total delinquent taxes reach 8,694,938.50. 20 percent from last 1934 year. Taxpayers Association provides county by county 1934 tax collection rates as of June 30 1935, showing gains in 25 counties and stability or slight declines in six. Rankings list percent collected 1934 taxes by county with values from Grant 96.99 to Taos 42.69.
In a cordial note to the Chamber of Commerce N C Nye of Cincinnati lauds Lordsburg water as the best in the Southwest and cites its climate as top in the United States. The praise echoes Arthur Brisbane who predicted Lordsburg could become a world health resort thanks to pure water and exceptional climate.
John B. Crowell vice president of the Bank of Douglas and Shelton D. Dowell chief engineer of the Arizona Highway Department visited for highway inspections on Wednesday. They traveled to review local and state road conditions and ongoing projects.
Local Home Demonstration clubs report robust attendances and active canning contests. Apache and Douglas members showcase recipes, patterns, and social events including showers and cake contributions. Plans include a Flying Squadron of Canning and a future Digger themed project.
Miss Blanche State of Wilmington Delaware spends fall months with Mrs Will Linn at Longview Texas. She drove from Delaware to Longview where sister Miss Motley joined her. The visitor from Delaware is impressed with New Mexico and noted as a tireless worker.

Capt F A Taylor who runs the OC camps at Animas Mirage Whitewater Beaverhead and Little Walnut visited Animas on Tuesday en route to the Animas camp. It was his first visit to the Animas region. He recently completed seven camps in the Albuquerque Banta Fe district.
Mrs. Marvin Pierce hosted a fourth birthday party for her daughter Marlene on Tuesday October 1. Guests included Kay Baxter Connie Jean McDonough Bonnie Ray Moses Raymond George Leta Eppstein Paul Corbell W P Arabella Malcolm Hill Joan Pia and Mabel Brown as they played games and exchanged gifts.
Lordsburg's crack polo squad led by Dick Whittenberg and Sherwood Culberson travels to Ft Bliss for a tournament running June 6 to 20. The Big Four players travel with coach Ehrhardt as a substitute, aiming for a trophy after the Port Bliss event. Local sponsors include Ritter-Walker Co and First National Bank among many.
The Lordsburg Business and Professional Women's Club held a Thursday evening meeting at Be rtha Scofield's home with Miss Verna Hancock and Mrs. Matilda Jones presenting joint programs. Dr F W Parker discussed infant mortality in Hidalgo Grant and Luna counties and immunization results. Six new members were elected Cecelia Fedrick Ena Walters Beatrice Garrison Mary Lee Fairly Margaret Puller Lula B Gilman with initiation planned for Oct 10 and a 7 PM dinner beforehand.
Dr. C. P. Austin chief surgeon of Phelps Dodge at Douglas and Mrs. Austin are on a month long paid vacation. Dr Paul notes this is the first such paid vacation he has enjoyed as they visit Lordsburg relatives and friends for a day or two.
Forecast for Lordsburg and vicinity is fair and warmer tonight and Friday with light southeast winds. Partly cloudy Saturday with little temperature change and light variable winds. Friday morning low near 56 and Saturday low near 58. yesterday's high was 87 and current low 51.
Mr and Mrs Sherwood Culber and their son were in town Tuesday as they visited local spots and met with friends, according to town observers.
Lordsburg Lions Club held a standout meeting with Mayor DeMoss presenting a trip report to Nashville and praising former principals and local officials. WPA coordinator MacAndries touted Hidalgo projects, while transient relief notes predicted six camps in New Mexico. Lions urged support for the Mavericks versus Hot Springs and praised the Y M C A secretary convention.
We express gratitude for the many acts of kindness shown to our wife and daughter during their illness. LeRoy Raves and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Adams and families join in thankful remembrance. Mr. and Mrs. M. Faves also extend appreciation.
Mrs Mildred Halloway was guest of honor at a bridge supper hosted by Miss Marshallene Goodsell. A waffle supper preceded the bridge for Verna Hancock Velma Hill Beverly Cate Ella Bradwell Doris Wright and Mrs Charles Walters. High score went to Mrs Halloway. Mr and Mrs H Scofield visited Silver City on Wednesday.
During a two week trip the Mayor DeMons and his son Edwin watched two St. Louis Cardinals games in a double header loss to the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs clinched entry to the World Series as DeMons reported overwork. In Nashville the Mayor visited his aged father and relatives including the Sanders and Miss Beales. The party also traveled to Columbia to see Mary Josephine at Stevens College for Girls.
Wild horses and drone busters will headline a two day rodeo in Rodeo New Mexico on October 19 and 20. Managers W C McLean and Howard Boyer announce steer tying calf roping wild cow milking family pig bronc riding gallo race and an obstruction race with handicapped ropers and purses equal to entry fees plus extra money. Races run on a quarter mile track each day with loud speaker announcements and registration due by 1 pm Saturday October 10. A dance follows the contests each night.
The Red Rock CCC camp hosts an anniversary dance on October 7 at 8 PM inviting the general public. Officers and members promise splendid music and an engaging program with refreshments. Lardaburg is specially invited to attend.
Rally Day is Sunday October 6 at the Bible School with morning and evening services. Regular pupils are expected and a quarterly business meeting of the congregation will be held at 2:00 PM. school meets at 10:00 AM and evening service at 7:30 PM led by Minister T A Phillips.

O Leary president of the Silver City chamber and editor of the Silver Enterprise led a Silver City party that met Mrs. Beulah Burch, superintendent of Grant County hospital, during a Pacific coast tour. Mrs. Watts and Mrs. Maccott accompanied the group as they reported on county activity and publicity.
The Interstate Area Y M C A held a two day session in Hidalgo county with seven associations represented including Albuquerque Paso Bisbee Tucson Douglas Miami and Phoenix. Key figures were N W Benning retiring after 36 years H Hansen and J W Deeming with Lordsburg to host next year amid widespread praise for hospitality.
Large crowd gathered as Mrs Mildred Halloway left for Chicago, showing the high esteem in which she is held in this community during her farewell.
Millionaire H. I. Grimes and his wife spent Sunday here to observe the Bonney mine's progress and confer with Joe Engberg and Travis of Salt Lake City, who are expanding the operation. El Paso visitors P. M. Chase and Mrs. Chase were in town Monday and Tuesday.
Guidance advises spectators to park on the west side to stay in sight lines and those exiting to the east behind the ditch to leave space between cars and light posts. Only players may be between boundary lines and the light post.

Kirby and Mrs. Kirby take over Broadway Cafe in Dr. Egon’s building. They redesign the venue into a bright, new spot and plan to meet friends there. They are experienced cafe operators aiming to attract patrons.
Mrs. Anna Maskey and Mrs. A Rh Sproul of San Francisco called on Porrest Sanders in Lordsburg on Monday en route to Nashville to visit the Sanders family. Mrs Maskey noted Lordsburg’s marked improvement since her previous visit seven years ago.
The W. M. U. met at Mrs. BE Hindman’s home on Wednesday afternoon for a study of Acta chapter four led by Mrs. C. Pence. Attendees included Mesdames Pence, Gass, Jones, Moore, Corbell, Will Mariar, Jesse Jenkins, Miss Tommie Jones, and the hostess. Refreshments of sandwiches coffee and tea were served.
Thomas FE Lyons arrived from San Antonio this week to settle affairs of his late wife and announced he hopes to return soon to open the smelting plant he erected east of Lordsburg.
Friends report Mrs Hallie Everett Kennedy underwent a successful appendectomy at Lordsburg Hospital and is recovering well. She is said to be resting comfortably and progressing steadily.
Charles Swain escaped injury when his 1929 DeSoto was sideswiped by a 1935 V-8 Ford driven by J E Sheffield, a tourist, near Wednesday afternoon. Sheffield said the crash was not Swain’s fault and attorney Forrest Sanders was informed of the incident.
