Death of William Uhl

William Uhl a Lordsburg resident died after a long illness and was buried in Mountainview Cemetery. Rev J S Brimberry officiated at Heather Funeral Home. Born in West Virginia on April 2 1883 he lived in Lordsburg about six years and left a wife a stepson Basil Giles of Los Angeles a sister Mrs Joe Rodgers of New Martinsville WV and a brother in Virginia.

Springers and companions injured in wreck near Hot Springs

Mr and Mrs Le Roy P Springer and Mrs Turk Moore of La Veta Colorado traveling to Lordsburg to visit daughters Mrs W E Baxter and Mrs Wallace Brewer were in a crash 36 miles from Hot Springs when steering gear failed the car rolled over injuring both women they were taken to Hot Springs Hospital for treatment. Roger Springer and sister Mrs Wallace Brewer were en route to Colorado relatives.

Jubilee Circle Meets at Mrs Chase Home

Night Blooming Cereus Blossoms for Fourth Time This Year

The fourteen year old night blooming Cereus owned by H. D. Baldwin has bloomed for the fourth time this year. Some claim the cactus blooms once every seven years, but Baldwin says it flowers annually with thirty to fifty blossoms each cycle. Buds form on leaf edges, opening in a week or ten days. Flowers are wax like and about six inches across. Normally opening at seven to eight pm, a recent cold spell delayed the bloom until morning.

Williams Encounters Big Wild Boar Tuesday

T Williams faced a ferocious wild boar near his homestead when Mrs Williams driving a car faltered at an arroyo. He blocked the animal with his hat as it roared and charged twice, narrowly escaping injury as the boar turned south.

Shillito Promoted to Grant County WPA Engineer

W A Shillito, longtime field engineer for the WPA, is promoted to field engineer of Grant county with headquarters at Silver City. Robert Prugle, a popular former Lordsburg resident, is appointed to fill Shillito’s role and continue the work in the same capable manner. Shillito will be welcomed in Milver City as his family remains to avoid interrupting his sons’ schooling.

Lordsburg Horse Wins at Douglas Meeting in October

Lordsburg represented horse owned by Frank Hill won multiple races at a Douglas meet on October 2 to 4 after a day’s delay. George Myers, a Lordsburg local and veteran jockey, rode the horse in the first two races, earning top finishes. Meyers previously won at the Safford rodeo and on August 16 in town.
