Voters face a statewide referend um on November 5 to decide if a constitutional convention should be called. If approved, 70 or more delegates would be named to draft revisions. the New Mexico League of Voters and a national committee back the issue.
Our high school invites local business support for the annual School Carnival set for October 12 from 6 30 to 10 00 p m. The event funds transportation meals lodging and athletic expenses for basketball volleyball baseball and track. Students will visit businesses next week to collect donations or articles for prizes.
State government seeks applicants for many postings with exams set for Saturday October 19 1968. Apply by the date on each job announcement to the State Personnel Office. Positions include activity the rapists assistant director of health planning costmakers construction inspector deputy chief of publications and more.
AAA warns a $200 million cutback in Federal-aid highway spending defies Congress as per the 1968 act. AAA says the trust fund is separate from general revenues and taints highway safety efforts by delaying interstate completion and increasing disruption to outlays. The organization urges adherence to Section 15 to avoid political headlines and further postponement of critical highway projects.
The 1969 Directory of New Mexico Manufacturing and Mining is ready for distribution. It lists 1143 firms with company name address phone number establishment date business type distribution range employee count principal official and product line. Mining entries are organized by district. Copies are $5 and available from the Industrial Division at 113 Washington Avenue Santa Fe NM 87501.
An adult class on basic sewing will meet in the high school home economics room Monday October 7 at 7 pm. Mrs Blanche Hitson will conduct the course and no charge will be required.
The 4-H Bank Campaign starts October 1 in New Mexico with October named 4-H Bank Month. Charles N. Haner says funds support state and national 4-H work including National 4-H Center programs in Washington, D C and citizenship leadership training.
About 100 freshmen at Western New Mexico University attended a 5 20 a m come as you are breakfast hosted by the Home Economics Club. They enjoyed ham pancakes apple sauce chocolate milk and coffee in the home economics department building. The club plans the state Home Economies convention for April 25 26 1969 and lists officers Margaret Bucher Ann Conway Peggy Myers Patsy Espinosa and Margaret Dodds with Adelaide Glaser as faculty sponsor.
The Hidalgo Area Development Corporation plans its annual stockholders meeting on Tuesday October 15 at 7 30 p m in the school cafetorium. Three directors will be elected and the annual report of activities will be presented to stockholders. The public is invited.
William F. Brown, representative of the Las Cruces Social Security office, will be at the Department of Public Welfare on Thursday October 10 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. He will assist residents with Social Security matters and answer questions regarding benefits and eligibility.
