Frontier Airlines flight carries rodeo queen and companions

Frontier Airlines at the municipal airport ferried Rodeo Queen Lucille Richins and Miss Betty Bradford to Phoenix Arizona on a Friday afternoon. Posed left to right were Ben R. District Deputy McKnight Visits Elks Lodge

A.L. McKnight Hobbs district deputy of the New Mexico lodge spoke to a large Elks gathering. He praised the local lodge for civic aid to cerebral palsy work and veterans programs in Fort Bayard and Albuquerque. He cited Albuquerque reports showing 72 cerebral palsy cases visited across 15 lodges and projected Elks support of $300.09 between the two regions.

Girl Scouts Council Holds Meeting on Monday

The Shakespeare Council of Girl Scouts of America met at Mrs. Wesley Freeburg’s home with 10 members present. Net proceeds from the rummage sale and fair concession totaled $151.27. Plans for October drive were discussed and officers nominated for election November 14 at the school cafeteria.

Four Local Ladies Injured in Albuquerque Highway Crash

Four local women returning from the State Fair in Albuquerque were injured when a car failed to stop at the Highway 85 intersection two miles south of Albuquerque. Mia Scofield sustained a knee cap injury requiring surgery. she will recover at home after hospital treatment. Mrs. Jack Morgan suffered strained ligaments in the right hand.

Attorney R W Tunnell Opens New Office

It was announced this week that the law firm of Tunnell and Barrett had dissolved as of last Saturday. Mr Tunnell has taken a new suite of rooms next to the Kerr Insurance agency on 2nd street across from the Coronado theatre. He said he would open for business in his new quarters Thursday October 2. The building is being redecorated.

Scouts and leaders urged to attend council meeting

Scouts council members and Girl Scouts are urged to attend a upcoming meeting. A Court of Awards is planned during the gathering to recognize achievements.

PTA Membership Drive Extends Through October

At a PTA Council meeting it was decided to continue the membership drive through October in cooperation with the National organization which has designated October as Membership Month. All parents and interested persons are urged to join. A membership in any unit makes the member eligible to any other unit.

Bids Sought for 9.489 Mile Federal Aid Project 70-40

The Chief High Engineer’s office calls for bids on Federal Aid Project FI-87(4) in Hidalgo County along Highway Route 70-40 between Lordsburg and Deming. About 9.489 miles with three concrete box culverts over 20 feet clear span, watering, rolling, ballast, and misc. Work must start within ten days of notification. Bids due September 26 1952. Right to occupy rights of way by September 26 or bids not opened.

Delegates Attend Hi way 80 Convention In El Paso

Texas State Senator Pat Bullock addressed the three day National U S Highway 80 association meeting at the Hotel del Norte in El Paso. He highlighted tourism as a major income source and noted travelers spent millions along Highway 80 with 713 million dollars spent in Texas in 1949. The luncheon talk was in the hotel garden room.

Lordsburg Rifle Club Seeks Volunteers for Range Work

Members of the Lordsburg Rifle club are asked to be at the rifle range Sunday morning to repair targets and assist in other work to get the range in condition. Plans are underway for an active season of the club.

Rodeo Queen Visits Phoenix via Frontier Air Lines

Miss Lucille Richins queen of the Sheriffs Posse rodeo for 1952 and Miss Betty Bradford travel to Phoenix Ariz by Frontier Air Lines for a two day stay. Richins received two Frontier tickets to Phoenix and $50 from the Sheriff's Posse. they depart September 26 and arrive 4 45 p m. They tour the new terminal and stay at Motel Adama with a fruit welcome basket before dining with Mr and Mrs Gerhardt at Green Gables.

Compulsory attendance rules require children who have passed six years to attend public schools until age seventeen or graduation. Exemptions include students in private or denominational schools with state approval and those physically or mentally unable to attend.
