Industry letters and local reports forecast rapid oil development in New Mexico. References cite San Juan basin prospects with upwards of one hundred structures and multiple fields. Lordsburg and Cochise county areas receive drilling plans and high production potential.
The two week Methodist revival closed with a large crowd at Sunday night services as many went forward. Mayor and Mrs Slanner Mrs J W Burke and Jackson Cross joined the church and will attend next Sunday. A C Bearey and others assisted Pastor Williams who plans farewell sermons before conference next week if Lordsburg wants him to stay.
Mrs Willard and Salter reach home from Duncan as Bill celebrates with 100 American Beauty roses awaiting her. Health of Mrs Kennedy improves and she plans to return tomorrow. Better look for Bill this week.
Sam P. Fulton of Santa Fe New Mexico weds Miss Helen Holt daughter of Mr and Mrs Willard J Holt Lordsburg NM. Ceremony at First Presbyterian Church El Paso at 1 pm conducted by Dr Floyd Poe. Fulton son of Dr Fulton a Presbyterian missionary in Japan and district engineer of the State Highway Department. They reside in the capital city and receive congratulations from friends.
The Womans Club will meet Monday afternoon with Mrs Sylvia Kerr presiding. The business meeting will be at Sand and the musical program conducted by Mrs Wilde will begin at 3 40. The public is invited to attend the musical program.
The Young Peoples Missionary Society held a meeting at the Methodist Church on Tuesday the 20th. A very interesting program was presented by members. Four new members joined and a special invitation was extended to youths aged fourteen to twenty-five to join.
The Busy Bees held a social Saturday evening with Mr and Mrs C A Conner. Guests enjoyed dominoes, checkers, dancing, and refreshments in a lively, community gathering.
Mr. LeCron said readers should note plans to drill about 44 miles north of Bowie within days. F. A. Black Drilling Company well No. 1 is down 400 feet and large casing from Los Angeles is on the way. Big casing would be a first for New Mexico wells as the company pursues high production.
Henry Shelly and partners including R M Heynolds show ore from a property near the Little Hatchet mines. A sample assayed at 24.50 percent copper and 4 ounces of silver, with the vein widening at depth, sparking excitement in mining circles.
Carl Junior was a wonderful son a boy of spotless character. He stood at the head of his classes and held a long standing scholarship record at Kemper Military School. He served bravely in wartime and rose to secretary of Noble Oil and Gas Company and its director and presiding genius. He declined a 825000 a year offer, and his death at 26 leaves grieving parents who recall a fearless zest for life and a belief in immortality. His father reflects on a life well lived and the hope of reunion.
Virden hosts a merry maker carnival described as a hum mer event with community fun activities and local participation planned to boost town spirit.
In Duncan the Martin well near the cemetery district suddenly began pouring water over the pipe after a month of pumping. Observers speculated the water eruption could prove artesian pressure or indicate natural gas below, with locals recalling oil seepages nearby.
Mr and Mrs Sam Watkins hosted a dinner Wednesday evening at the Country clubhouse in honor of Mrs Albert Field of Deming. Guests included Mrs Field Frank Coon and Mr and Mrs W F Ritter. Mrs Coon is Mrs Ritter's sister and the Coons returned home Thursday after visiting. Mr Coon presides over the Mimbres Valley Bank of Deming.
An important Chamber of Commerce meeting is scheduled for Friday evening at the Hollow Hotel at eight o clock. All town interests are invited. The secretary will present maps from the Government Air Service and a report on his El Paso visit, plus highway information affecting local businesses.
Saturday's event at paint headquarters and Hitter Lumber Golf Office drew many visitors. Attendees learned about interior wall decorations and paints while children enjoyed toy balloons from the company.
Two railroad meetings were held at the Star theatre with the morning safety session led by Div. Bupt St. Mores and an afternoon fuel meeting led by W. G. Reid. Attendees included many division foremen and enginemen, focusing on safety, efficient service, and fuel saving. notices end with bakery ad offering apple pies.
A Monday morning incident south of Lordsburg involved Havel Hindman Hughes and others who abducted a woman and child. Sheriff Jones and Chief Deputy Turpin took Alpha Hughes and George Hughes to jail for kidnapping. hearings set before Judge Armstrong in Valedon.
Lordsburg Knights will host a convention with attendees from Deming Hurley Columbus and Duncan and other visiting lodges next Saturday October 3. Degree work will be shown by visitors and possibly the home lodge. An welcome address by Knight Holt and opening remarks by TA Keon precede demonstrations by visiting lodges. Past Grand Chief Sylvia Kerr will speak on Temples of Pythian Misters and a COMITAC feed will follow. Visitors urged to wear fez.
Mr and Mrs Chas Johnson hosted a four course luncheon at their home on Shakespeare Avenue and West Fourth Street to show guests the chicken yards and a new tenement house. Mrs Johnson formerly worked fifteen years in the Welfare Department of New York City. The Johnsons are described as valuable community assets and excellent cooks.
