Isaac Rickman and Thomas Beard are cited as early journeymen shoemakers arriving in 1629 on the second Mayflower voyage. The piece notes Rickman ancestry via Jean Rickman and Dorsett boot shop ties. It also recounts hunting tales, community notices, local ads, and social updates from Lordsburg.
Lordsburg Junior Women's Club held a Tuesday banquet at Mrs. Elsie Lee's home for prospective members. Mary Louise Noce welcomed guests as colorful attire and elaborate costumes were shown. A planned luncheon is set for December 5 at the Woman's Club Building.
About 200 head owned by John Currey were sprayed Sunday by County Agent Ed Hitson after dipping for lice. Cattle will repeat the treatment in 18 days using Rotenone and a DDT mixture. Local ranchers plan December demonstrations and aim for statewide de lousing and de gravelling efforts by December 15.
New Mexico Cattle Growers Association plans its Third Quarterly Executive Board session in Clovis on December 5 and 6. George A. Godfrey says 400 plus leaders from across the state will attend to discuss legislation affecting the livestock industry and to chart policy for the 18th NM Legislature in Santa Fe starting January.
Pi Chapter Beta Sigma Phi met at Hotel Hidalgo on Thursday Nov. 21 with members listed including Mrs Harbor Heather and Miss Mary Louise Noce. Miss Noce led a discussion on table etiquette and decorations, Mrs Hunt served cherry pie a la mode and coffee. Also announced is the birth of James Kennedy Gilbert Jr. on Nov. 4 in Pasadena California to Dana Gilbert formerly Donna Nelson.
Harry Galusha announced donations from numerous El Paso firms to sponsor Lordsburg’s Sun Parade entry for January 1. Miss Christine Templeton is the Sun Princess representing Lordsburg, with supporters including Motor Sales Co., Palace Theater, First National Bank, Greyhound Cafe, Union Dept. Store, Hidalgo Hotel, and many others.
Glenn Carroll, violinist, will open the Deming community concert series announced by Rev. Bryan Hall. The event is set for Monday December 3 with admission by ticket only and no door sales. Lordsburg residents are advised the concert has moved to Deming City Hall.
In the invasion of Northern Europe a large part of the oil demand was transported by sixteen petroleum lines laid along the floor of the English Channel from Dungeness to Boulogne and from the Isle of Wight to Cherbourg. Continental requirements were met on a ten day basis.
Lordsburg Mavericks and Las Cruces Bulldogs battled to a 7 7 tie in Las Cruces. Ralph Craig burst 60 yards for Lordsburg and scored on a later end around. Sammy Medina threw and ran for the Bulldogs with key plays setting the final score at a stalemate.
Lawrence Gay announces lease of Lordsburg Lumber and Building Supply to Hershey Johnson who takes over management. Johnson brings 20 years in building supply. Gay plans a modern appliance store on West Railroad Avenue selling Philco and Maytag products with service and delivery. existing customers stay with Johnson for prior installations.
Mrs Nat Gammon presided as hostess at a luncheon in Hotel Hidalgo honoring Mrs Thomas McQueen and Miss Margaret Dormented of River Forest California and Mrs Clarence Robinson of Shreveport Louisiana. Guests included Mrs C B Austin Mrs Hazel Buvene Mrs Harold Scofield and Mr Alvin Oberlander.
Drivers licenses for 1947 will go on sale Dec 1 for motorists holding a 1946 New Mexico license. Those without a 1946 license must first obtain one before a 1947 permit is issued. Drivers lacking a 1045 or 1946 New Mexico license or a 1946 license from another state must pass an examination given by a New Mexico State Police member or Port of Entry Chief Inspector.
Mrs. Rachel Atkinson reports the death of J G Bird of Grand View Texas on November 12. Bird formerly lived in Rodeo and was well known in the Rodeo community. He is survived by Mrs Bird who plans to return to Rodeo soon to make her home.
CONDITION OF J D RUNKLE IMPROVES The 38 year old truck driver from Carlsbad wounded Saturday night at the Eaves home remains in good condition at Lordsburg Hospital. Arch ie L. Eaves 40 is held on an open bar in arrest. Clara Faye Eaves 20 wife of Archie gave written statements.
Ford Motor Company has provided disabled World War II veterans with free special driving equipment. L Prine, Ford dealer in Lordsburg, explains Congress allocated 30 million dollars to purchase cars with devices for veterans entitled to compensation for loss or loss of use of limbs. Prine invites veterans to discuss their driving device needs with him.
New Mexico will offer 1947 license plates starting January 1 announced by County Treasurer Mertice Brooks. Plates show a county designation before the serial number with a sun symbol. regular plates cover private cars staff officers mounted patrol cars trucks and trailers. Hidalgo County motorists will use plate number 24.
The Church of the Nazarene schedules a full Sunday program announced by Rev. O. L. Wright. Sunday school starts at 10 a m and worship at 11 a m with an Evangelistic service at 7 p m and prayer meeting plus choir practice at 7 p m on Wednesday.
The San Simon Cienega, part of the San Simon Land Utilization Project, is closed to hunting to protect a rare New Mexico duck population. The nesting site, the only known area outside the Rio Grande Valley, is cited by Regional Biologist A B Borell. Beaver and muskrat removal is allowed to stabilize erosion and improve conditions for wildlife.
The Community Public Service Company held a safety meeting and a barbecue and pot luck supper Monday night at the Woman's Club. Twenty five members attended with Bob Poindexter barbecuing venison. Dancing followed the meal as a brief diversion.
Rainfall totals measured Sunday reach .68 inches at the Southern Pacific depot. Reports show widespread rain in Lordsburg and nearby towns Red Rock and Virden. The雨 was generally observed between Lordsburg and Tucson, Arizona.
