Military promotions and court case report from Lordsburg and Sharon

Private first class Raymond De May of Sharon Pennsylvania advanced to Technician fifth grade and then to private first class with new duties in the Adjutant's Section at Lordsburg Prisoner of War Camp. Melvin k of Route 2 Columbia Mississippi promoted to sergeant. Meek served twenty six months and moved to Lordsburg POW Camp from Fort D.A. Russell. he serves as mess sergeant for two POW companies. Judge A W Marshall opened the November term of District Court with State vs B D Hendrick, a case where the jury could not agree and the defendant was released until the next term. seven jurors favored conviction and five favored acquittal.

Two Local Teens Wed in Silver City Nuptials

Margaret Bradberry daughter of Mr and Mrs L A Bradberry and Leon Speer son of Mr and Mrs Claude Speer Berry were married in Silver City Wednesday afternoon. They honeymoon and plan to decide future after Seaman Speer returns to base. Both graduated Lordsburg High School class of 1944. The bride worked at the Ration Board office.

Private Thomas Givens Receives Presidential Unit Citation

Pvt. Thomas Givens Jr of Minnesota received the Presidential Unit Citation from Lordsburg Prisoner of War Camp commander Lt. Col. Napoleon Raintholt in a ceremony on Friday November 17. Givens earned the award for Guadalcanal combat with the American Division, serving six months on the island alongside Pvt. Bernard Minnehan of Breckenridge. His decorations include the Pacific campaign ribbon with one star American Defense Medal and the Gold Star Medal. He is now assigned to Lordsburg POW Camp.

The Business and Professional Women's Club met November 14 at Hidalgo Hotel for a Dutch treat dinner.
