Golf Course Project To Continue Sunday
The city plans to plant Tif Green grass this Sunday as five weeks of growth failed. The new grass uses less water and will be planted deeper, growing in runners that must be cut into small sections. Four days prior packing will occur and volunteers are urged to assist for at least one hour.
V F W Installs Officers at Post 2099 Meeting
At the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2099 gathering Past Commander Gene Noce installed the 1963 64 officers led by new Commander Arnold D Payne. Mrs J R Poindexter was installing officer for the Ladies Auxiliary. A chicken dinner followed for seventy comrades and auxiliaries. Memorial Day flag displays urged for Lordsburg businesses.

City Pool Opens With Powell as Manager
The city swimming pool opened Thursday May 30 at 1 pm with Anron Powell as manager John Dallies assistant manager and Steven Speer in charge of the concession stand. From Thursday June 6 the pool will be open to adults for swimming from 7 30 to 9 30 pm.

Three Lordsburg Boys to Represent at Legion Boys State
Three junior boys from Lordsburg were chosen to represent the town at the Legion Boys State program at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell. Delegates are Don Black Ronald Stiles and Joe Martinez with Ernest Gay Richard Lindsey and Ronald Bivens as alternates. Sponsoring groups are the Lions Club Elks Lodge and the Moctezuma Club. The event runs June 8 to 15 with about 400 participants statewide. A D Black commander of Robert Swan Post No 30 praised cooperative support for the selections and sponsorship.

Wyle Bros Construction Co of Albuquerque was the apparent low bidder for eight miles of new highway on U S 70 west of Lordsburg with a bid of 755000 dollars. The engineer's estimate was 786000 dollars. Second low bidder Brown Construction Co bid 784496 dollars. Universal Grading Co led the field with 830061 dollars. The project includes two lanes with cement treated base and asphalt surface.

Stone Named New Sixth District Attorney
Leland A. Stone, age 54, named assistant district attorney in the Sixth Judicial District. He and his wife will reside in Silver City with their three children. Stone studied at Boston University, practiced law in Springfield, Massachusetts, from 1933 to 1959, served as special assistant attorney general, worked in the State Highway Department legal section, and later became assistant city attorney in Albuquerque.

Calcutta Roping Contest Winners at Local Fairgrounds
A large crowd attended the Calcutta Roping contest at the fairgrounds. In team roping two steer averages Otho Woodrow and Gene Ward of Silver City won first at 99.0 seconds, Buck Bradford and Jack Branham of Tucson second at 29.2, Fred Darnell and Billie Darnell of Rodeo third at 31.1. In three calf average Jim Spurgeon of Lordsburg won with 53.4 seconds, Hugh Rideout Mimbers Valley second at 54.0, Bill James Alpine Texas third at 54.2. The Roping Club plans another roping contest soon.

The Lordsburg summer band starts Monday June with registration at 9 00 am for Beginning Band 10 99 am for Junior Band Summer Senior Band opens at 10 00 am Beginning Band is for fifth to eighth graders Junior Band requires one or two years of previous band work Senior Band is for three or more years.
