Lords- Viewers Association Eyes TV Translators Plan
A group in Lords- Viewers Association campaigns for snow free TV reception by installing translators to convert from very high frequency to ultra high frequency. The project aims to ensure each viewer access to at least three major networks at a total cost of 55. Bennie Everett chairs the effort with Claude Speer as vice chair and Margaret Codding as secretary treasurer. Last Saturday teams began canvassing the city to gather facts on costs and feasibility.

Fish And Game Officer Retires After 14 Years Service
James A. Hall, veteran conservation officer with the State Fish and Game department, retires effective May 25 after more than 14 years of service. He came here from Elephant Butte lake after 11 years there. Frank Smith succeeds him, coming from Conchas dam where he has served three years. Hall will stay on locally due to Mrs. Hall’s illness and thanks local officials and law enforcement for cooperation.

Hidalgo County Fair Committee met at the Courthouse at 2 00 PM May 17 1957 to set goals for the fair season. The Fair Board will pay Senior Premiums this year with family memberships at 5.00. They propose a cooler in the Fair building and improvements to the grand stand and exhibit stalls to attract greater participation for a bigger fair.

Commencement Exercises for 1957 High School Class
Commencement exercises last Thursday night marked the high school career of 46 seniors. The event featured a Pomp and Circumstance procession led by Sylvia Fierro. LDS Bishop Allen Hill gave the invocation as graduates wore caps and gowns. Janice Malott delivered the salutatory and Darry Deaton gave the valedictory. Dr. N. E. Bradbury of Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory spoke on life’s challenges and change.

GOC Instruction Sessions Held in Lordsburg
Mrs. Lestie Scherling, chief observer for Lordsburg Lords Ground Observer Corps, reports about 45 volunteers attended training sessions Monday and Tuesday nights. M/Sgt Albert Carter of the Tucson Air Force Filter Center led the instruction. The observation tower nears completion and will be usable in about three weeks once a telephone line is installed. A watch schedule is set with volunteers shifted to the alternate list.

Chase Stretz of Hurley won the one day Southwestern Golf Association tournament at Lordsburg Golf Club after extra holes, defeating Fort Bayard’s Johnny Burke. Louie Monje of Silver City was medalist with one under par 71. multiple flight winners and Fort Bayard claimed the team play championship with a record 605.
