Lordsburg High School held graduation for 41 seniors. Valedictorian Brian Watkins spoke on education and challenged grads to pursue goals. Salutatorian Ben Ponder quoted MLK and urged resilience. Guest speaker Phil Liberty urged dreams despite no sound system. Numerous scholarships were announced including ROTC and NMSU awards.
Lordsburg juniors Justin Jorgenson and Ketan Patel were selected to represent Lordsburg at the 1993 Boys State Conference next month. Jorgenson, son of Faye Jorgenson, serves as Student Council President and National Honor Society President among other roles. Patel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Patel, plays football basketball and track and is Junior Class Treasurer with National Honor Society membership. The Lordsburg American Legion Robert Swan Post 30 sponsors the program, which lets students run a mock government to learn the democratic process.
Railroad Mining Days weekend offers numerous food booths at Short Park. Vendors Snack Shack, J J's, Deanna's, G. Bowers, Fahitas, and Assembly of God Church will sell burgers, funnel cake, popcorn, onion rings, Indian bread, cotton candy, and more. Shoppers can visit Juanita's, Forms 'n Fun, Stamp Capades, Veeder's Jewelry, Apache Hiking Sticks, Pro-Line Sports, and Sonny's for toys, stamps, jewelry, gear, and apparel.
